Thank you Gillianren. I knew his comment was offensive but you explained why better than I could have.

Nicely put Gillenren,

Just to clarify, I'm not against his banning or suspension, his statement did deserve action, it's just I was surprised that it was straight to permanent ban rather than a suspension as has happened in previous cases and wondered if I had missed further offences and warnings previous to it.

I think overall LO has handled it well, and doubt that the poster will be back regardless, or if he does, such a return will be likely be rather short if he hasn't grown up.

You're right, PhantomWolf. After thinking about it last night I realized a permanent ban was probably over doing it. His comment was rude but I don't think it's something that a short suspension and an apology from him can't resolve, as long as it doesn't happen again.

Very well put, Gillianren. Thank you.

It's a bit late now, but I was going to ask LO to allow kimchijjigae back after a suitable time in his well-deserved purgatory. Watching the devastation that is slowly and resolutely wreaked by an overinflated ego -- as it slashes and burns and shifts the goalposts -- is so utterly fascinating.

kimchijjigae has been banned permanently for making another sexist/misogynistic comment after having already received a temporary ban for the same behaviour. The comment has been moved to a hidden section of the forum.

It seems the whole thread is locked except for this single post? That cost me an hours work!

I'm sorry about that... if you haven't closed your browser you might be able to go back to the edit screen and retrieve what you wrote. I can unlock the thread now that he is banned, I just didn't want him posting again before I could ban him. Again, I'm really sorry if you've lost a post.

Don't worry. You did what you had to do.

Well I called that. Makes me feel that my stepping in and your giving him a second chance weren't at all worth it, LO, especially given my prediction.

That's why I got confused. If I'd seen that post, I would have understood.

Ong has been banned for being rude and having a generally bad attitude.

I've been really busy lately and I can't be here watching the forum as often as I used to... so banning him is just the easy solution. I doubt he would ever willingly decide to be more polite, so there really isn't much point in me wasting any effort trying to change him.

I have banned fattydash for 6 months (180 days) for refusing to explain why he believes dishonest tactics such as sock-puppetry are fair in a debate.

If upon his return (no earlier than January 13, 2012) he still refuses to answer the question I will make the ban permanent. If he attempts to use another sock-puppet account in the meantime the ban will be made permanent (for all of his accounts).
