I always find Bill Thompson's posts to be worth a laugh. He's an arrogant self-righteous Ess Oh Bee on every forum where I find his posts, but sometimes his annoying petulant opinioneering is amusing.

I vote: Don't punish "Rick" for the sins of "Bill" but let him hoist his own petard under the new name if he feels the need to do so.

Oh, and "rick:" don't push you're luck. LO wields a heavy ban-hammer around here, as I'm sure you've seen.

Who is the arrogant one? The one who you named or the one you gave a more tangable example of?

What is a petard?

Anyway, for the record, I will say that I think LO is engineering his own reality here at the cost of others repuatations.

Um . . . what does that even mean? You don't recognize Hamlet, but you want to be respected, one assumes. In that case, explain why your version of events is the logical one.

Right, because no-one ever says something out of character in moments of stress or frustration, do they?

If only a second passed from when the post was made to when he was banned, that is pretty suspicious.

It didn't, rendering your suspicion baseless.

Quote:
He says he was discussing religion and LO felt sorry for some Mormon.

And he was more likely to say he was being obnoxious about it and effectively harrassing someone and didn't like being warned to moderate his attitude to respect others' beliefs? Come on.

Quote:
There was not enough done to justify banning him, so in order to safe face, LO invented some additional posts to make Bill Thompson look worse than he was and then straightaway ban him. Kind of seems plausable to me.

Seems somewhat paranoid and delusional to me, ascribing someone powers that the board simply does not allow them. The admin of a bulleting board here does not have the power to modify other users' posts, only remove them if they contain offensive material.

So, perhaps you can explain why you brought this up four years after Bill was banned?

the warnings are more or less "hey, this guy seems like a nice guy who is defending the religion he choose and you are a meany for hurting his feelings"

You repeatedly made personal comments to that regard saying time after time that you were tired of what he said.

So you were basically saying "this is my house and free speech is what I decide it to be"

It would appear that Thompson enjoyed being a member of his forum.

the posts that got him banned do not reflect either his personality or writing style.

I think he is not lying.

What is more, is there an email addres for LO? Is this web forum's admin open to the public?

That's a lot of stuff to dredge up, 5 years after it occurred. Why does it bother you?

Actually, I can edit other users posts, but when I do it labels them "Edited by LunarOrbit". So I can't alter a post to make it appear that someone said something they didn't. What Bill is accusing me of is impossible without knowing his password.

What appears in Hamlet is a "petar," which is likely a pun.

Edited to add - that is, use of the word "petar" is likely a pun. The thing itself is not a pun.

Possibly his goal is to fill up all web forums with inpenetrable blocks of self-congratulatory text. His next target is probably going to be I Can Has Cheesburger?

I think he's going after the Guinness World Record for "Most Times Banned from a Website".

Well, ya see, I had some spare time this evening, so I was doing the random surf thing. I was actually looking up some Apollo stuff on the porous plate sublimation dealy.

I came across this dude, who believes it is all a hoax. All of it.

No space travel at all, it's all hoaxed.

And he oddly only posts to the comments sections of newspapers.
And boy are those odd comments.
Oh, and I should say, LOTS of newspapers, around the world.

It was rather odd.

If anyone wants the links, I can certainly shuck them up from my history.

I included longfuzzy on my abbreviated list of fattydash/P1k's socks over on JREF. He PM'd me and said he was not one of fd/P1k's socks. He thought his sole post here had been misunderstood and wondered what might consitute evidence of his non-sock puppetry.

A brief glance at his posting history on JREF doesn't really look like P1k/fattydash/etc.'s bloviatory style, so he may be on the level. I don't know what other evidence you had against him, but if you care to give him a shot at redemption and would like to pass anything on to him, I'm OK with playing middleman.

If you look at his sole message here:
http://apollohoax.proboards.com/index.cg....3&page=48#94256
It looks like he was quoting fattydash but because he quoted such a long message and didn't use the quote function, everyone seems to have missed his own short response at the end.

Bottom line is the Mod's decision is the Mod's decision.

Bear in mind that the Mod sees a lot more data than you or I.

Been there and done that. You have no idea how far people will go until you actually see it.
