Given the damage even a very small explosion could do, all the electronics that could potentially act as a point of ignition, as well as the very enclosed nature of the environment, it does not surprise me that these studies were done. You can't exactly roll down the window or open the helmet to let out the stench.

Several years ago some reputable users got into a conversation regarding the delta-V possible from a urine stream.
I'll let them remain anonymous.

It was measurable; remember the misunderstanding on Apollo 13 that resulted in poor Fred Haise getting a urinary infection.

Can't see that sort of thing being allowed on BAUT anymore...

I remember that thread, or at least one like it. I think it was decided, given a possible supply and force of expulsion, one could at least go into orbit around a small asteroid with ones stream. It was actually rather fascinating.

I see one big oversight in that thread, though it was briefly mentioned: the effect of the atmospheric pressure drop. That's increasingly important with the switch in cabin atmospheres from pure O2 at 5 psi to ordinary air at 15 psi. Though of course you're more likely to actually need this propulsive capability while in an EVA suit, and they're still pure O2 at low pressure.
