 Typo
« Thread Started on Aug 22, 2007, 3:57am »

This thread is for typos or errors that we find at Clavius. Strange as it may sometimes seem, Jay is actually human and so, like the rest of us, makes mistakes, and this is a quick and easy way to help him out.

It is very hard to critically read our own writing because we know what it should say, so don't always see what it does say. I'm always grateful if somebody points out a misplaced apostrophe in anything important that I write.

Above all, if we point out even the smallest error it helps to give Clavius more authority by being technically, factually and grammatically correct. So please post here any errors you find. Jay will make the correction in time, which doesn't mean the same as promptly.

Just post the link to the page, the error and the correction:

Mr. Kaysing, who passed away in 2004 -- 21 April 2005
would be laster associated -- later

Important note
Individual typos do not qualify for the highly-prized and rarely-awarded "I corrected JayUtah" T-shirt, but 100 typos in twelve months from the same pro-Apollo member will definitely be considered. And to show how sporting we really are, 25 from any hoax-believer.

[Edited to remove opening paragraph which is now way out of date and detracts from the purpose of the thread.]

WHERE RADIATION COMES FROM
We can answer this question in two ways.
-- It looks like the heading may have originally been a question, but has been rephrased without the next part being rephrased.

Kaysing made a portion of his subsequent his living -- second "his"
the main engines for the some of the launch vehicles -- second "the"

Loved the reply to Jarrah White's claim of "character assassination".

The astronauts reported that their boots penetrated as little as an eight of an inch (3 mm) to as much as three inches (7 cm), with an inch being the most common penetration depth reported.

Should be "eighth".

A spell checker won't catch this.

I've not finished reading it all. It looks like a well researched bit of work. Plait covered some of this years ago.

Welcome to the board, suitti.

It looks like a well researched bit of work.

Jay's web site is a great resource, isn't it.

The height it reaches is determined solely by the velocity of the ball as it leaves you hand.

Should be "your hand."

Glad to be on board. :)

Another correction - more of a factual error than a typo, I'm afraid:
http://www.clavius.org/envradintro.html

"Rem" stands for "Roentgen equivalent man" (or "mammal", according to some sources), not "radiation" as quoted. Would it be too pedantic to point out that, although the curie, roentgen, rad, and rem are indeed _American_ units, they're still _metric_ units? Probably. :)

"Kaysing made a portion of his subsequent his living from perpetuating the fraud theory, although he wrote may books on a variety of subjects that were not especially controversial."

A surplus "his"?

"may" -> many?
