I've not been able to access BAUT today and Universe Today seems to be down as well, does anyone have any idea what is going on or can contact Frasier or one of the admins to see if they know what is going on?

BAUT is loading for me, albeit slowly. I'm sure Fraser knows by now, though he's probably only just waking up himself, given he's in the same time zone as I am.

Its still timing out for me, at a guess I'd say that the transatlantic hop is taking it from slow to not working at all

Is BAUT hosted on the Amazon Web Hosting service? I read that they are having major problems, and a lot of sites are out.

I tried to follow a link to UT from Gizmodo earlier with no luck. If you want to see a beautiful image from Hubble that Gizmodo got from a story on UT , look here.

Yeah, it's completely down for me now. Which is irritating, as I'm about to go away for four days. Without checking BAUT!

The Amazon EC2 servers are often the target of hackers. Amazon is also a tool used by hackers. My forum security logs are often full of Amazon IP addresses because they allow people to operate anonymity servers that hide the identity of criminals and hackers.

I seem to remember Fraser or ToSeek mentioning that BAUT moved to the Amazon servers a while back...but don't quote me.

Not been able to get on it all day. Yeah, it's completely down for me now. Which is irritating, as I'm about to go away for four days. Without checking BAUT! Maybe it'll come back due to significantly less strain on the servers.

Look at it this way: If nobody can get in, then you aren't falling behind on your BAUT reading, because nobody's posting.

Thanks. It's strange that no one is able to reach sites hosted on Amazon servers, but I'm getting a lot of incoming hits on my website from Amazon IP addresses today.

Here's Amazon's server status page: status.aws.amazon.com/Clicking on the "more" links opens log-like comments. It seems that only a couple of servers are (still?) affected.

Baut, UT and the old Bad Astronomy site are still down. I am Mod there but I don't have the email address of any of the other Mods or Admins to see if they know what's happening sorry folks.
