Ta :)

I posted this in Icke, but it will get buried in drivel so I'd rather post it where people would actually understand it - it's more on this sequence of earthrise shots:

we have a sequence that shows the moon rotating under the command module, we know where the rendezvous point was - could it be possible that these photos could contain recognisable landmarks?

Indeed it could.

The rendezvous point was over Mare Smythii, something you wouldn't be able to see properly from earth because it is on the very edge of the near side. Collins began his sequence of images as he approached Mare Smythii from the East (as we look at the moon).

Here's a screengrab of the approach to Mare SMythii - which is at the left hand edge of the image:

And here is a sequence showing the AS11-44-6622 at the start of the rendezvous sequence, with some key features identified. The animation then moves on to AS11-44-6630, and then identifies common features. It should be obvious that these two images cover the approach to Mare Smythii very nicely.

The final image in the sequence is AS11-44-6643, by which time Mare SMythii is almost underneath the CSM and the LM is almost ready for docking.

I've found a nice image of it here:

and here are the two images combined:

One ENORMOUS, complicated and very exact sound stage :)

Can I suggest that "they deserved it" isn't a valid excuse in this situation? After all, it contributed to your thread's getting taken out of the public eye, and if you weren't posting here, they'd say it was because you were trying to hide it from those who know the Truth? Probably some of them think that anyway. Besides, it's better to avoid making any discussion about personalities. Stick to the science.

Nice work, threadworm. It's a valuable contribution. Post it at Icke anyway.

First post, the main reason I became a member is so I could see the new messages.

While I've been a member here for quite awhile, I'm also, shudder, a member over on the Icke forum.

I've seen Threadworm take tons and tons of abuse from, so-called "truth-seekers."

I don't blame him a bit for what he says, and, as he's stated, it really was deserved. OTH, I remember my short stint as a Mod on the old Vivendi Games forums. One of the best ways to get your point across is NOT to cuss or attack the person, attack the argument, and the case of the Moon Landings, to date, not ONE of the HB's have offered up a shred.

Welcome Phil,

Please feel free to post any time. Hoax believers don't come here much any more. It seems that all the ones that are active stay put in the less demanding forums with their fellow travelers.

Now if you can get the sat pics for the time of the docking you could match this and have the one two punch of both the moon and the Earth having recognisable features.

I'm actually waiting for an email from the University of Wisconsin, who have an archive of satellite data for Apollo 11's mission.

In the mean time I'm going to Apollo 8, which is the first time humans had ever seen Earthrise and I have what I need for that. I'll try & match up Moon features as well as Earth. If I can I'll get appropriate Lunar Orbiter/Clementine pics to defuse the usual "it's only a model" claims.

In the meantime, here are a couple of nice videos I made from magazines taken on Apollo 8's lunar orbit.

I particularly like about 25 seconds in to the AS08-17 sequence - you need to add your own sound effects by going "WHEEEEEEE!!!" :)

The AS08-12 ones could be two separate runs of exposures, which would explain why it isn't quite as coherent as the other one.

Apollo 08-17

Apollo 08-12

If anyone wants to play this game with other missions it's very easy: I used flashget (other mass download managers are available) on the Apollo Flight Journal pages to download all the images (I excluded the high resolution ones), loaded them into Live Movie Maker. Played around with the frame rate until I was happy with it, et voila!

As for the whole 'how to deal with idiots in debates' question I agree, it's far better to hammer home with facts no matter how wilfully and deliberately dense the person is, but I will not be called a liar, which is what the person concerned insinuated, ie because I know my way around Photoshop, I therefore faked the images I posted.

Apollo 8 weather matches coming soon :)

It's sometimes difficult to make heads or tails of their incoherent ramblings, seeing that there are so many inconsistencies and contradictions. If you ever need a break from reality, I suggest you visit the DI forums. It's like taking a trip to La-La Land!

I guess one could sum up the gist of their argument as such; The photo comparisons that threadworm came up with prove nothing because NASA, being an underhanded, lying government agency, had access to very powerful computer technology that the rest of the public didn't know of. They used these powerful computers to map the satellite imagery onto photos of globes (Early 3D Modeling?) and then pass it off as Apollo photos.

Of course.. overlooking the obvious problem of - how did they do this during a LIVE BROADCAST?

I happened to go back to my 2nd earthrise movie from Apollo 11 today, and for some reason I had assumed that both of the earthrise sequences (the one before the landing & the one when the LM & CM were reunited) showed Australasia.

Looking more closely I see I was mistaken.

I went back to this document:

http://dspace.mit.edu/bitstream/handle/1721.1/59623/30119849.pdf?sequence=1

And did a screenshot of the image for July 21st 1969.

I then found this image:

from here:

http://www.archive.org/details/AS11-44-6642

Where this very large TIF image is also available:

http://www.archive.org/download/AS11-44-6642/AS11-44-6642.tif (50Mb)

It clearly shows South America and the Caribbean, which means that the satellite images in the research paper should cover it.

Yep, indeed they do.

The lunar module, with Mare Smythii in the background as part of a series of images that clearly show the module rising towards the CM, and the weather patterns visible on the earth as it rises in the background match those on the satellite image taken by ESSA.

Very nicely done. If the hoax needed a nail in the coffin, I think you just put it there. I doubt that the most stalwart deniers will continue to denym but any fence sitters should be well and truely off after seeing these.

Yes, the Dunning-Kruger effect has been making the rounds. But I've noticed that a few of the hoaxers are projecting it right back, claiming it's the reason we Apollogists still believe in the Apollo fairy tale...
