You rteally have no clue what you are talking about, do you?

Every single death in the astronaut office went a long way to convincing people the project was too dangerous, and when the Apollo 1 crew died as a result of the spacecraft design the result was a public enquiry and a media circus. US senators were using those deaths to argue for shutting down the whole program. What kind of lame, backwards method of faking a lunar landing intentionally riskes undermining it to that extent?

Even if one made some argument that cutting it short would help the hoax by making less for them to fake, all these incidents mean you have external people looking all over the place. After Apollo 1, NASA got some major PR hits by conducting it's own investigation behind mostly closed doors, so after Apollo 13, they really spread the doors wide*.
This leads to a major question if it was a hoax however as you got thee people who are not in on the hoax, and have no reason not to reveal it, sticking their noses into records and paperworks and such.
Whose to say one of them wouldn't find something?
"Yeah, I was looking for the oxygen tank figures and I found some receipts for film lights and a set construction for Groom, Lake, Nevada, anyone know anything about that? I also found records for an order of a few hundred tonnes of fine sand dyed grey and foam rock sculptures by Disney and a replica LM from some guy in Canada.

You forget that Mondale and co were all in on the hoax. It's like the way Obama and McCain were actually working together to use the presidency in a plot to steal the hope diamond.
