Maybe this has been discussed before elsewhere... If the Apollo 1 fire hadn't happened, how might Apollo history have gone differently?

I think an accident was inevitable... if it hadn't happened during the Apollo 1 test then maybe it would have happened in space. The original Apollo capsule was seriously flawed.
But even if there wasn't an accident I don't think it would have allowed NASA to land on the moon any earlier than they did because the LM was behind schedule and still wouldn't have been ready.
One thing that I do believe would have been different is that I think Gus Grissom would have been the first man on the Moon. Deke Slayton said he wanted one of the Mercury Seven to be first... and Grissom would have been the only one still flying since Slayton and Shepard were grounded and the others had left NASA by 1969.

Wally Schirra & Gordo Cooper were also still active at the time but I agree that Slayton would have opted for Grissom.

Hi Ott, welcome to the forum. I was assuming that whatever circumstances lead to Schirra and Cooper leaving NASA still existed in the alternate history, in which case Grissom would be the only Mercury Seven astronaut still flying.
