I have a guess or two, but I'm curious as to other's thoughts here. Neil was/is a private gent. Not one for the glory. But why didn't he hand the camera to Buzz for a nice shot or two by the Flag or the LM? I'd like to see one. ...but again, I have my thoughts as to why...

It's generally accepted that Neil was the better photographer with the camera so he tended to have it more. I think there is actually more then one of him, just no staged ones. While I'm not going to try and read his mind, I'd say that most likely he just figured they were there to do a job, not have pretty holiday snaps.

Well, there's the LM interior shots they took of each other.
For a long time it was thought that were no EVA Hasselblad pictures of Armstrong. The research that identified him in one frame was done by Doug Arnold and originally published in Spaceflight.

There are a number of frames of Armstrong taken by the DAC from inside the LM. As I recall, in one his face is partially visible.
In Armstrong’s biography, First Man, the author introduces some speculation that Aldrin was ticked at having to be second down the ladder and deliberately did not take many documentary pictures of Armstrong and muffed the ones he did take. Armstrong, in his customary way, discounts the speculation of an unfriendly motive by Aldrin.
For my money the picture taken in the LM following the moon walk, is worth as much as any photo of a space suit with a gold mirror for a face.

Good points. On that mission, they only had the one camera, I'm not even sure Aldrin had a chest mount system, so any shots he would take would be hand held after taking the camera from Neil. They were also busy, quite likely just a time thing. It was a very short EVA.

If I was given the choice of being on Apollo 11 or 17, I'd have picked 17
