I purchased this series the other day and it arrived at work this morning. Has anyone here seen it? If so, what's it like?

Superb. 12 episodes - Each one radically different in tone from every other. Everybody has their own likes and dislikes. You will find your own. I loved about half of them and only liked the rest [edit: I'm really pretty indifferent to the rest, actually]. Still, it is the greatest telling yet of a vast and complex story.
Some episodes really touch my soul. When I feel a certain way, I will watch one of these again. When I need inspiration, or reassurance that mankind is capable of good things, or to remind myself of the better parts of our nature, I turn to this series.
Enjoy it. Hell, treasure it.

Its a superb series. I agree with Count Zero. It has its ups and downs like any other, but when it does it right it really does it right. My favourite episodes are Apollo 1, Spider Takes Flight and That's All There Is. Apollo 1 in particular really gets me emotionally.
My only advice for you is that you savour this series. Don't try and watch it all as fast as you can. Take it an episode a day at most, and you'll get the full impact. It was originally shown in pairs, with no opening and closing credits between the two episodes, but I think one episode at a time is a better way to take the series.

I taped the series when it originally ran, but loaned the tapes out to someone and never got them back. Then, a few months back, I happened to notice the DVD set was on clearance at Wal-Mart for something like $25, and snapped it up.
Curious historical note: ABC premiered Apollo 13 the same night part 8 And Now for a Word premiered on HBO. Coincidence?

There was a small discussion here some time ago, including a Kiwi's list of all the errors they made.

Pop some popcorn, buy a lot of you favorite beverage, and settle in for a remarkable series. They're well done, reasonably accurate, and quite enjoyable.
FWIW, the grips on my National Geographic special worked on this special. We specifically chose a grip crew with experience in "faking" Moon landings.
