But it brings a question to mind. Why haven’t we had a discussion about the Shakespeare hoax on this board? Enquiring minds want to know.

I think it was Laurence Olivier who put paid to the notion that Roger Bacon might have written the Shakespearean canon:

Al, I think you mean Francis Bacon, not Roger Bacon: Roger Bacon bio Francis Bacon bioBack when I was a kid, I read Fletcher Pratt's Secret and Urgent, a book about the history of codes and ciphers. There was a chapter on the "Shakespeare was Bacon" claims, since the use of "Bible Code"-like tricks was a favorite technique of people seeking evidence in Shakespeare's works that the author was someone other than Shakespeare. Pratt reported that when one skeptic applied exactly the same methods advocated by a prominent Baconian to a different passage from Shakespeare, he derived this startling message:

The Times and the author of the column are obviously in cahoots with the NWO. When I was in London a few years ago I saw a black helicopter near the Times HQ.
