Yesterday I saw an excellent BBC documentary called WORLD TRADE CENTER: ANATOMY OF A COLLAPSE from the "Days that Shook the World" series.
- The structural engineer who designed the Towers was interviewed.
He had designed the towers to withstand the IMPACT of a 707 - then the largest [passenger?] plane in existence. 707s and 757s are comparable in weight, speed and fuel load.
What he hadn't taken into consideration was the fuel load and resulting fire.
His office over looks Ground Zero. He said seeing the fire and extent of the damage he wondered if the the towers would collapse.
He in no way questioned why they collapsed. If anyone had an inherent motive to doubt that the structure of the towers failed it would be him. He will have to live the rest of his life wondering if he had done things differently might thousand of lives and the tower themselves been saved.
So the engineer who designed the Towers does not doubt the ASCE explanation of why the WTC collapsed but Turbonium who apparently has NO QUALIFICATIONS to do so is so smart he can clearly see it is absurd!!!
- There is evidence from survivors that the drywall which was the fireproofing for the central core and the stairs was severely compromised.
Each tower had three stairways all in the central core. No one from above the impact zone of the North Tower escaped because all three staircases were blocked by fire or impact damage. The core the stairs shared the same drywall fire protection.
Only four people from above the impact zone of the South Tower escaped. One of them was interviewed he said the only passable staircase was filled with fire and smoke. If it hadn't been so full fire and smoke presumably more people would have escaped, some people were going the other way [up from the impact zone]
Someone who escaped the North Tower said on many parts of the stairs he could see into offices which were on fire. He said there was drywall 'all over the place [approximate quote] and had to remove large pieces of it to get past. This was obviously below the impact zone.
A group of survivors got stuck in an elevator. They forced the doors open but were trapped by drywall. They were able to make a hole with a squeegee and kick through it.
-A group of firemen who were in the North Tower when it collapsed said nothing about hearing explosions.
