You can call anything you want a science; it doesn't mean that it is. I will note that poli-sci majors have liberal arts degrees.
And actually, I have a great deal of respect for Kerry. He believed in public service, so he served. He didn't ditch his National Guard service and lie around Texas drunk and/or stoned for decades.

To be slightly more serious, I believe they call it "political science" in the original sense of the word: they are aiming to impart knowledge about/of politics, not claim it as a scientific discipline; as Gillian says these courses are offered by the Arts Faculty...

If deplomas are worthless then the whole system is flawed. Some diplomas are worthless, some aren't. ;D Most Universities have "Sociology Degrees; please take one" written somewhere near a toilet roll dispenser...

I have no respect at all for Kerry. He parleyed those few months of service into a political career by conducting a smear campaign against his fellow soldiers.

He believed in public service, so he served. He didn't ditch his National Guard service and lie around Texas drunk and/or stoned for decades. You have bought into the hype. John Kerry was a Vietnam war protester PRIOR to going to Vietnam. He did EVERYTHING he could to keep from going to Vietnam and at a very last resort he choose the branch and the type of service with the least amount of causalities. This instinct for self-preservation served him well when an another boat in is group struck a mine and according to Kerry's own words at a eulogy, he turned his boat sharply causing a marine to fall off the back of his boat. All this while the other boats in the unit rushed to the damaged boat's aid. The fact that he had to pulled the marine out of the water was later spun into the idea that he was some kind of hero is absurd and ironic. While the enlisted men under his command supported his run for president (they would unless he was a criminal or an alcholoc or killed innocent people), the people who count -- his officer peers -- all said he was a coward and unfit for command. John Kerry's war record is deplorable. Mine is better than his. Knowing this, John Kerry has never allowed anyone to officially open his service record and look at it. When the New York Times ran a piece showing that Kerry's IQ was lower than Bush's, Tom Brokaw interviewed Kerry about this. He asked how they got to that conclusion, Brokaw said that they used military records (pre-combat ones) and Kerry said that he did not know how they could get to that conclusion since he never allowed anyone to see his records. Since this was a huge embarrassment for the Democrats who had demanded and gotten Bush's official war records, this comment was deleted from previous broadcasts. You can get a transcript of the interview from NBC and you can download the broadcast and see the deleted line of questioning. During the election I would tell people this and they would spout back, "well he served his country more than you did". I had not thought of it until that time but, yes, in fact I actually DID serve my country much better than he had. (lots of typos since I wrote this quickly)

To be honest who cares, they are both idiots. Why are you arguing over which is the bigger one?

I think someone's been listening to the Swift Boat Veterans.
The reason to argue which is the bigger idiot is that, if the bigger idiot won the election (which I believe to the depths of my soul), the US is in worse state than it ought to be, which I also believe.
And you know, no, Kerry didn't do everything he could to get out of going. Ask George Will, George W., Rush Limbaugh, et. al.

I read an interesting article today that speculated what if the democrats, the media, and the anti-war left had been behind the war instead of against it? What if the media had emphasized the successess rather than the casualties? What if democrats had remained united behind the President until the war was won rather than attacking him for their own political gain when they perceived a weakness? Would the troops be home right now if the momentum of the media had made the terrorists' job much more difficult rather than easier?
