But man you guys are seriously tempting me back in. I'm just going to say this one thing then I will never look at this thread again (I hope). I DO think that things like education, knowledge and use of birth control, and knowledge and use of adoption need to be seriously strengthened as viable options. Abortion should always be a last resort and should only be elected once the mother has carefully considered the consequences. I believe social action could bring down abortion numbers as education gets better. The less abortions that are given, the better. But I still believe the right to choose freely the option of abortion is key.
But as I said earlier, Jason already won......this time. His victory is official and I will not bring this topic up again.

Alright, I'm going to go start another thread now, since you guys won't wait until after Christmas.
Although, should an Abortion thread be in "Beyond Belief" or over in "General Discussion"? Hmmm.

Going back to the original subject of this thread, I have a few more incidents of anti-Christmas-ness:
Ft. Collins, Colorado the city created a Holiday Display Task Force which recommended banning red and green lights and only using white ones. The Council voted 6-1 to keep current decorations.
The Oak Lawn, Illinois school district was going to abolish Christmas parties. Parents raised a fuss, so the school board decided to add celebrations of Ramadan and other Muslim holidays.
In Plant City, FL and Troy, PA, residents of senior-citizen housing were told they could not decorate the common areas of their building with religious symbols at Christmas. After criticism these decisions were reversed.
Barbara Walters criticized the White House for including a quote from Nehemiah (from the Old Testament) in its Christmas card. (I know, "Barbara Walters criticized the White House is something of a tautology")
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport removed all its Christmas trees last year after being thretened with a lawsuit if a menorah was not also included in the display. This year the airport convened a "holiday decorations advisory committee" which attempted to remove all religious decorations from the airport's displays.
The Hollywood Christmas parade, a 75-year tradition, has had it's name changed to the Hollywood Santa Parade this year.
The Texas Gas Transmission Company this year ended a 40 year tradition of displaying a large, lighted cross.
Missouri State University took down a Christmas tree after a Jewish faculty member said it "showed a lack of sensitivity". After press reports the administration put the tree back up.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources was initially ordered to remove all Nativity scenes from state parks because of one complaint. After being criticized they decided to continue "prior holiday traditions."

As if there aren't more serious issues in life to complain about. We had a situation in these parts where people complained about Firetrucks having decal stickers of red ribbons in support our of troops in Afghanistan and elsewhere. They took it as a pro-war stance, and thought that our public services should remain completely neutral on the matter and not show bias one way or another. www.nationalpost.com/news/story.html?id=7b7fb72e-ee96-4aa1-9001-9312f95c0bf7&k=35244

Hmm. And here I thought the War in Afghanistan was pretty clear-cut compared to Iraq. I guess that's not the case in Canada.

Hmm. And here I thought the War in Afghanistan was pretty clear-cut compared to Iraq. I guess that's not the case in Canada. Well, yes and no. I think part of it is that it has been six years since they went in and there is no end in site. We're committed to stay until 2009, but don't be surprised if we pull out then. We sure don't like our soldiers coming home in body bags, and the public and government alike is getting tired of it. And I'll take this moment to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Political Correctness be damned! I hope this is an occasion for you all to get together with your family and friends, loved ones and maybe even mend some broken friendships. I know sometimes its the same routine every year, but try to think of some way to make it special.

Heh, you think six years is a long time? The U.S. has had troops in Germany and Japan since 1945 - and South Korea since the 50s.

Well, those are military bases though. The U.S. even had them in Canada for quite a long time, maybe even today in the north.

Ginnie, didn't you here about the secret underground contingent of US troops in special tunnels under Toronto that are waiting for the opportune moment to spring out and take the city? ;D

And the way things are shaping up we'll have troops in at least Iraq for the next sixty years, and perhaps Afghanistan too.

Ginnie, didn't you here about the secret underground contingent of US troops in special tunnels under Toronto that are waiting for the opportune moment to spring out and take the city? ;D What I heard was that they poked their heads up in Chinatown, figured they dug too deep and left. That's unofficial information of course. ;D

For what it's worth, my Solstice was very enjoyable. I got some great presents and made one of my friends very, very happy with the present I gave her.

Ft. Collins, Colorado the city created a Holiday Display Task Force which recommended banning red and green lights and only using white ones. And I thought Tipperary Hill was pushing it's luck (of the Irish?) just by swapping the traditional orientation of the colors. Going achromatic would probably cause a hazardous degree of confusion.

Statistic: 42% of the Christmas cards I received this year does not have the word 'Christmas' on them.

How about last years'? Or the year before's?
Cards have often said "Season's Greetings" or some such, if only to make it clear another one wasn't going to arrive for New Year...
