Sorry if I appear a bit cranky, but I've had a bad cold this last week.

I'll note that something else I disagree on President Bush with has recently made news - the new $150 billion "economic stimulus package" agreed to by both Congress and the President. Oh I'll spend my check when it shows up in the mail, but I'll still be upset about an obvious "feel good" package that doesn't do anything substantial, like making the Bush tax cuts permanent or cutting capital gains taxes to encourage investment. For weeks Mitt Romney has been explaining why it's a bad idea to provide tax rebates to those who don't actually pay any income taxes (as many lower-income housholds do not), and this plan does exactly that.

Forgive my ignorance of American Politics. Actually on TV I kind of like Huckabee, he just seems like a nice person, but I really don't know his platform. You're right; he does seem nice. I just don't want him to be President. He's funny, so far as I can tell, and he's perfectly willing to go look silly on the Colbert Report. All that said, I wouldn't even want a Pagan who wanted to change the Constitution to favour their religion as President. The President can be personally influenced by their religious beliefs, but trying to impose them on other people is right out. But more specifically about Huckabee, he thinks the nation's #1 priority should, apparently, be border control. He's for the war. He considers gays sinful and a public health risk. (That last a direct quote.) He claims that, in 1992, we didn't have enough information about how HIV is spread that he should have known that isolating AIDS patients wasn't necessarily an intelligent way to prevent the spread of the disease. (I'd have to look this up, but I'm morally certain that most transmission of the disease is by people who do not yet know they're infected, making isolation an exercise in futility.) He's a creationist. He is in favour of NASA, so that's something.

And that means that's just about it for Mr. Huckabee.

Yep, Huckabee finally realized that was it for him last night and finally pulled the plug. But only after he did things like accept donations of wedding rings for his lost cause (at least, according to his speech last night). "Huckster" seems to be the best nickname for this guy.
