And the shattered expectations. Don't forget those.

I do not expect perfection, but by Gods, I'm doing a happy dance. A brief one. Then, my knees give out and I fall over. But I'm still cheering. At least now we won't have a President who gave a stupid nickname to the Prime Minister of Russia and gave an unwanted backrub to the Chancellor of Germany.

No, we'll have a president who thought there were 57 states and attended a racist church for the last 20 years. You judge whether that is an improvement.

My middle child is happy to be getting a new president for his 7th birthday.
I occasionally read at Military.com forums. Bleah. Anyway, it's an okay cross-section of opinions in the nation. One thing I've noticed, both the Right and Left seem to have an Image of Obama that they've created. Both seem to think he's more radical than he has shown himself to be in his cabinet choices (thus far). Rather than thinking of him as some kind of radical "malcom x with a job" kind of leftist "negro," remember that he's just another lawyer. He's a professional politician.
The only reason he was able to get the office in '08 instead of having to run again in '12 is that he was running against the Bush record, and McCain, who even the right despise.

I'd prefer Donald Duck to the moronic, right wing, warmongering, religious extremist that is George Dubbya.
And those were his good qualities.

No, we'll have a president who thought there were 57 states... Shall we start a list of moronic Bush slip ups? At least Obama could blame his mistake on an exhausting campaign schedule. Here's a start: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGRYPYuFZLk

Don't you support your President, Jason? It is un-American and unpatriotic to criticize the President, especially in a time of war. So I fully expect Republicans to stand behind every single decision Obama makes, good or bad, just like they did with Bush. If they criticize Obama it shows weakness to our enemies and encourages them.

I don't approve of, or agree with, many of his decisions, but as our elected leader, he is my Commander in Chief. This country is strong. We survived Nixon, and we've survived Bush. For that, I'm willing to pledge "I serve the people of the United States" Obama might not be your "cup of tea" but he is the elected president, and as such he deserves your respect. I may not agree with what you believe, but I will fight to the death to defend your right to believe it. HOOAH!

My point being that the criticism about Obama's miscount of the states is just as grounded in fact and just as significant as Gillian's criticisms of Bush. (That is to say, not much) The office I respect. The man will have to earn my respect. To this point all he's done is win a presidential election. George W. Bush managed to do that twice.

I'm amused that Roberts screwed up the oath of office--and Obama knew how it was supposed to go. I also wasn't terribly fond of the poem this time, but we can't have everything. We got Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman, so I guess we'll have to make do.
Interestingly, "so help me God" isn't part of the oath as written in the Constitution. Washington added it when he gave the oath, and no President has given the oath without it ever since.
