Why did they have to wash the Apollo astronaut's potty mouths after they returned to Earth?

Well, after Alan Shepard told Mission Control, "Beep, Beep, my @$$!" in response to Cernan's prank, his mother insisted on washing his mouth out with soup.

Be...cause they misinterpreted the order to stow urine to avoid navigation errors... maybe?

Old family recipe, very fatty, with lye added for extra sharpness, then boiled for a few hours. Most people tend to substitute the third letter with the first vowel instead of the fifth.

Why did they have to wash the Apollo astronaut's potty mouths after they returned to Earth? Brings something fun to mind; what sort of potty mouths did they have on missions? Only one I've seen is from Apollo 10, when the ascent stage did a tumble not long after seperation.

Brings something fun to mind; what sort of potty mouths did they have on missions? The Apollo 12 Flight Journal contains a lot of profanity in the onboard tape transcriptions. But they watched their language when Houston could hear them I think. www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/ap12fj/index.htmAnd on Apollo 17 at 123:02:29, Gene Cernan said a bad word ("sub-vocally") when he dropped his antenna.

And not forgetting the infamous open mike incident on Apollo 16....
