I think there are various reasons why people like to believe the hoax. Some are simply attracted because it's something one writer described as "having an engaging air of plausibility, and which would make life more interesting if true". Those sorts are likely to accept it's not true if shown the evidence (even if they're sort of disappointed).
Some people have political or religious agendas, and some are just born to go against the grain. If something is generally accepted, they'll try to demolish it. If they succeed in convincing everyone that the hoax is true, next day they'll start all over again arguing that it's false.
It's a weirdly entertaining look at human nature, really.

Hello Apollo people.
Haven't participated in this sort of board before, but I took the plunge and registered at several boards over the last few days. One crashed while I was registering, another popped up a message that said I wasn't welcome because I was a spammer (before I got a chance to say a word!), and yet another told me the staff had to approve my application, with this approval never arriving. So I am to be found at the only board that wants me.
I did create my own board at proboards, just to see how it works, not because I really wanted to run one.

Hi, I'm from England and I thought I would join here after speaking with Lunar Orbit on the HPANWO forum. I firmly believe man landed on the moon and find it curious as to how some people can't understand that. When I first came across people (only on the internet) who talked about a hoax, I had difficulty believeing they weren't joking. Still do, but if they are, some of them are carrying the joke way too far. Now addressing anyone who wants to answer: what is the track record of the board? Have many people been turned around on this one? I hope nobody has been turned around the wrong way.

Hello, I am Irina. I found this board from Bad Astronomy, but if I post there it is a random event if it ever shows up or not. I hope it is better at this one.

The great thing about this board is that you can stay in touch with all the topics here. I hope you find the time to post often.

Welcome suele! When I first came across people (only on the internet) who talked about a hoax, I had difficulty believeing they weren't joking. Still do, but if they are, some of them are carrying the joke way too far. Got that right - just check the current posts to the board... I've not seen any, here or elsewhere, but you certainly do see the lurker or two who admit they were swayed briefly by the denier's claims, but then once they investigated it properly, realised they were being had.. There are really only a few active posters on these forums who are pushing the hoax barrow, and it's fair to say that some of those may be.. er.. duplicates........ And it's extremely rare to see anyone join in to support them. Except their own sockpuppets, of course.

Howdy all. Zakalwe here, calling from the UK. I'm an Apollo enthusiast, would-be amateur deep sky imager (very much a noob at that, and with very modest equipment). One of my highlights of the last couple of years was visiting KSC, seeing the Saturn V stack and touring the abandoned launch sites (is there a sadder sight than the Apollo 1 launch pad?)

(is there a sadder sight than the Apollo 1 launch pad?) The closest contender would be the Space Mirror with the names of the deceased astronauts. But to me, Pad 34 isn't just a memorial to the Apollo 1 astronauts. It's an unintentionally symbolic memorial to the entire Apollo program. All the salvageable hardware has been stripped. Rust streaks stain the aged concrete, and weeds grow up through the cracks. Nobody is around. The place is abandoned and forgotten.

Hi everyone. I just joined last week and this is my first post.
My real name is Jeff and I work for a company called Belcan in Northern Cincinnati. Specifically I work in the CFD/Aero/Acoustics group of the Advanced Engineering & Technology Division. Most of our work is for GE Aviation but we also do work for GE Energy and for Rolls and Pratt.
I have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Wright State University and an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Dayton.
I started my career as an aerodynamicist for the Conceptual Aircraft Design group at Wright Patterson AFB. I was there from 1983 to 1999. In 1999 I left engineering to teach physics at an all girls college prep school in Northern Cincinnati named Ursuline Academy. In 2007 I came back to engineering and wound up at Belcan.
I was 11 when Apollo 11 landed and I had been following the space program for years before that. Basically as long as I can remember. The space program spurred my interest in engineering.
Well that's it. I hope to contribute to the forums as time allows,

Welcome, Jeff.
It looks like we're practically neighbors. Although I grew up in Sandusky, I went to the University of Cincinnati, graduating in 1981 (Civil Engineering). I then move to Kettering where I lived until 1988. After transferring to Birmingham, Alabama for ten years, I moved back to the Dayton area in 1998 and currently live in Centerville.
It also looks like we're the same age (born in 1958).

Welcome to the forum, Jeff! Ohio seems to be a great source of engineers. It's probably no coincidence that so many astronauts are from that state.

Holy conicidence, Batman!
Jeff, I just looked at your profile and I see you are a whopping five days older than me.
Waynesville is also only about 12 miles from my house.

Bob and LunarOrbiter,
Thanks for the welcome. I have been looking over several of the threads the last week or so. As I said, I hope to contribute in the future.
Bob, it looks like we may be "Twin Sons of Different Mothers." ;D
I grew up in Dayton and went to Orville Wright Grade School and Wilbur Wright High School (When it was still a high school and when it still actually existed). Moved down to Waynesville when I got married.
Again, thanks for the welcome
