Seems like every forum has a thread like this, so... ************************************************************************** Lately I've been listening to the Beatles a lot. Seems like every few years I rediscover them. I really enjoyed listening to the Magical Mystery Tour recently. Unlike early Beatles albums where us in Canada and the U.S. got ripped off with the "American Versions", in this case, it was a bonus - not only did we get the MMT side (it was released as an EP in England) , but also side Two which was ever better: Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever (these two almost made the Sgt. Pepper album but were instead released as a double A side single prior to Pepper's release). When people mention "great" Beatles albums, this one is never mentioned. I think it is in their top five.

I went to see Puccini's Tosca at the Houston Grand Opera yesterday. A great show with the meanest of villians. The character was as cold and cruel as any I've seen in opera and the baritone who played the part was tall and straight and moved like a man whom all the world feared.
I get most of my Beatles listening these days when my kids get hold of my IPod in the car. They love the Beatles but we tend to pick songs and not listen to albums all the way through.

Personally, I think Revolver is one of the Beatles' best albums. It might even be better than Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band though I'd have to listen to both to find out for sure.

I rather like Revolver myself. My favorite Beatles song is on Rubber Soul, though.

Lets face it, the Beatles recorded a lot of good albums. My favourite in order (approx.):
1 White Album 2 Revolver 3 Abbey Road 4 Sgt. Pepper 5 A Hard Days Night 6 Magical Mystery Tour 7 Let It Be 8 Help! 9 Rubber Soul 10 Please Please Me 11 With the Beatles 12 Beatles For Sale AM I missing one? I'm referring to the CD releases not the American albums. (BTW this list order could change tomorrow)

I got four Beatles CDs (The White Album, Revolver, Beatles for Sale, and Rubber Soul) for Christmas, but I haven't taken the time to listen to them yet (I want to transfer them to iTunes first).
What's the deal with Revolution 9, anyway? It's the first (and so far the only) Beatles song that I hated... even calling it a song is a stretch. Do I blame Yoko Ono for that one?

I find Revolution #9 too scary to listen too. Its not a proper song, but a sound collage experiment anyway. Another song that you might not like is "You Know My Name, Look Up the Number". Also, "Flying" from Magical Mystery Tour. On some of their really early albums there's a few that aren't that good, but whats important is that they kept learning and creating better music. Indeed, their last recorded album, Abbey Road, might be their best. BTW Beatles For Sale is usually regarded as their worst album, and I agree. That said, it still is a very, very good album. I still find it hard to believe you haven't listened to them yet though...

Along with Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage. Back in the turntable days we used to play it backwards by turning the platter by hand. Later I had a reel to reel deck and played it backwards on tape. For those know not in the know, if you play the often used phrase "number nine" backwards, it comes out roughly but unambiguously as "Turn me on dead man." Paul is dead, long live Faul

We haven't had a good Paul vs Faul thread around here in a long time. Just thought I'd keep the idea alive for when the Apollo HBs go back on break. IIRC the last time I brought this up, you removed some of your hair too. Its a good that you have plenty.

I wonder if Ringo or Paul will be the last surviving Beatle?

I wonder if Ringo or Paul will be the last surviving Beatle? It's pretty funny in a way that there are conspiracy theories on both surviving members that say they died in the 60s and were replaced.

I wonder if Ringo or Paul will be the last surviving Beatle? Don't forget Pete Best. He is a former Beatle after all. If not part of the Fab Four.

Yesterday while exercising on an elliptical trainer, I listened to selections from Philip Glass. The first half hour was the opening and closing songs from Satyagraha which I found good for my concentration in establishing a strong breathing pattern. The later half hour was filled mostly with the instrumental pieces from North Star where I focused on the rhythm of the music, particularity to help get through the tough last 10 minutes of the workout.
