That is one long anthem. I kept thinking of The Hunt For Red October. Yeah, it reminded me of The Hunt for Red October too. I remember when I was a little kid (late 1970s, early 80s) they used to play the national anthem before the start of movies in theaters and people would stand at attention. Now we get commercials for cell phones.

"Cheer up!" they said, "It could be worse!" So I did, and it was.

Ever try to tell American money apart when you're in a dim bar? Even after 6 months of living there I had trouble telling the notes apart in a brightly lit supermarket. And as for their coins, what sort of crazyman makes their 10c SMALLER than their 5c?!?!?!?!? (heck our govt doesn't even believe that we need 1, 2, or 5c coins anymore.) That actually served as a plot point in an otherwise forgettable movie: the hero needed to ransom Ashley Judd from some rednecks but didn't have enough cash, so he stacked up $1 bills with a high denomination note on the top of each stack. Probably the only country where you could even hope to get away with that ;D Daredevil showed the rationale behind most of the world's banknote sizing: Ben Affleck's (blind) character folded each note in a distinctive pattern to tell them apart...

And they had taken pennies out of circulation too. Personally I think U.S. money looks nice and dignified compared to the crazy colors on other currency.

Euro has the same problem: 5 cents is larger than 10 cents, and 1 euro is smaller than 50 cents. Though the different colors do help a lot.

Guilders->Euro switch in 2002. Still occasional nightmares of converting badly designed old software.. and that only slightly after converting badly designed software with y2k flaws... *shudder* I'm so glad for Canada, and for the guy himself, that Crosby delivered on the high expectations. Not by being the star of the olympics, but still, he scored the most important goal of all.
