Well, needless to say, my earlier hockey "skinny" was a tad off. My hat's off to the Habs who showed me that the Capital's "choke" might not have been an apt description of what happened. My Pens looked like they were missing a gear from last year long before their Game 7 loss to Montreal but I have to give the Canadiens credit, an extra gear might not have made a difference. The Habs did what they had to do to win. No more predictions. I'd like to see Montreal go all the way.

Why Montreal won:Everybody on the ice gave 100% - that a rarity, but it's what your team needs to be successful in the playoffs. Halak - amazing goaltending, again, something else key to advancing... Cammalari - such timely goals. This guy is a gem. Why Pittsburgh Lost:They basically have only one offensive line - if you can shut that line down, half the battle is won... Defense is just okay... Marc Andre Fleury - not trying to take anything away from this goalie, he's played some really good hockey but was very mediocre in game seven. ........................................................................................................................................... Whether its Boston or Philadelphia that advances tonight (I pick Philly), Montreal should be able to beat them in the Semis. Chicago vs. San Jose... this is tough for my Blackhawks. I think Chicago has a better offense and defense. It might come down to goaltending. Nabokov has the experience over Niemi. I predict a Montreal/Chicago final! And I pick Chicago in seven. (1971 almost broke my heart)

I basically agree with you, although instead of saying the Pens have 1 dangerous line I tend to think it boils down to Crosby, Malkin, and Staal and then a bunch of supporting cast. It would have been nice having the Bill Guerin of 10 years ago. The D, never one to pound opposing puck-carriers outside of the smallish Orpik as long as I can remember, missed having Scuderi and Gill this year. The Pens actually allowed less shots this year but that was more due to Dan Bylsma's puck-possession scheme than defensive prowess. Fleury has always been inconsistent. He'll give you a shutout one game and let in a bunch the next.
I watched your Blackhawks play Vancouver and they looked good. San Jose always appears very good "on paper" but I'll have to see them hoist a Cup before I believe it. I like Philly over Boston too but probably just gave them the patented "Archer whammy" by posting that. ;D

t. I like Philly over Boston too but probably just gave them the patented " Archer whammy" by posting that. ;D Then don't say anything about my Blackhawks! Yeah, imagine Gill playing for Pittsburgh this year instead of Montreal. San Jose and Chicago were pretty similiar in Wins, Goals For/Against, Points etc. But I think Chicago are more balanced, they have two really good lines, one pretty good one and one good checking line.

As bad as us Steel City denizens feel about the Pens losing, it gotta be a lot worse in Beantown today. Imagine being up 3-0 in the series and 3-0 in Game 7 only to lose both. That gotta hurt.

Ack! I'm a Bruins fan who dislikes both Philly and the Habs! Gotta go Philly though, Montreal is the "Yankees" of hockey. Out west have to go Chicago, as I don't give a "levee" about California hockey teams. If it ends up Montreal vs. San Jose in the final, I'd almost have to go with the "enemy", the Habs lol. Don't ask me to explain that lol

The Flyers are reviled here in Pittsburgh so I wouldn't shed a tear if the Canadiens beat 'em. It'll be an interesting match-up. The Flyers will bring a different style into the fray and we'll see how the Habs respond to Philly's more physical approach. It's kinda hard to pick Philly though after Montreal beat the No. 1 seed and the defending champs. I'm expecting a close series.
Since my "whammy" was exorcised (blowing a 3-0 lead in the Flyer comeback) I think it's safe now to pick Chicago to win it all.
It's a shame the Pens couldn't play and beat the Blackhawks in the Cup finals this year. It would have been a very entertaining series for one thing and I would have seen Hossa get screwed by fate yet again. *Sigh*

That Bruins team should have won three Cups in a row.... The '70/'71 Bruins were an outstanding team - ten players had more than 20 goals! That's the first and only time that's happened for any team.

I picked Philly and they won, didn't they? No curse. In fact there never was an "Archer whammy" ... it just felt better saying that than admitting my hockey predictions have generally sucked.

Well, despite what you said, Chicago managed to pull out a win today. Good, close game, but I think Chicago outplayed San Jose. And Niemi played outstanding.

Chicago Blackhawks are on their way to the Finals. Only Philadelphia stands in the way of our first Stanley Cup in 49 years! I was only three when that last happened so I don't even remember... ... I wonder if I can rent a fibulator for the Finals?

FIRST GAME OF THE STANLEY CUP FINALS!!!
Chicago Blackhawks 6 Philadelphia Flyers 5
Whheew! What a nailbiter... Chicago played a crappy game for the most part but still managed to win due to the Philly's goaltender weakness for high glove hand shots... Niemi was shaky but will bounce back I'm sure... Toews line not a factor but did turn it on in the third... We got four penalties to Philly's none - luckily Bolland scored a shorthanded goal... our defence was mediocre most of the game...
All I can say is that if we can play that lousy and still manage a win, things look good for the rest of the series. I expect the Hawks to "re-adjust" for game two and come out flying. Our defence has to get their shi t together, and Toews, Kane and Buf must score.

I didn't see the entire game, just the first half of the first period. Including unintentionally scoring on their own net when a puck was deflected off the face of one of their players.
