Vietnam war protesters and the hippy movement was largly populated from the middle class.
The current crop of protesters (in the last decade or so) have no idea how privileged they are to be able to engage in these protests without being machinegunned in the streets. Their ability to protest "the system" is proof that "the system" works to maximize human rights.

Most of the protesters were there for legitimate reasons, and it is unfortunate that the anarchists intermingled with them to make it difficult for the police to do their job. The anarchists want to see legitimate protesters get hurt or wrongfully arrested because it makes the police look bad.
If the Black Bloc anarchists were not there the other protesters would have been able to demonstrate peacefully with little interference from the police.

I just heard a protester from Montreal defend the destruction and vandalism. He said "from our point of view it wasn't violence... it was our way of expressing ourselves." So, does that mean if I want to go burn down that guy's house as a form of protest I am justified? I think that is the core of the problem. They believe their the right to free speech allows them to commit criminal acts, as long as it is in protest of something. I wonder if the people who bombed the Canadian Forces recruitment centre in Quebec would say the same thing about how they're just expressing themselves. You can be against the war in Afghanistan, but you don't have the right to blow up buildings!

That's inflation for you.
Remember like Apollo that money wasn't just burned. It went to pay wages either directly or indirectly.

Vietnam war protesters and the hippy movement was largly populated from the middle class. Part of the reason the protests against Vietnam were so broad was the Draft.
