Seventy-five years ago today. And his mighty music still lives on.
I played modern cover versions of his songs for three hours this afternoon, and eyed two other CDs on Amazon that I don't have.
For the first 15 or 20 years after his death most cover versions were more-or-less just simple copies of Buddy's, but the more recent ones are much more fascinating interpretations by the artists. The latest I have, "Rave On Buddy Holly" (Fantasy, 2011) has some great stuff on it. Paul McCartney goes quite nuts on It's So Easy, but it's still good fun.
Thanks, Buddy, for decades of enjoyment.
