The tube was too small for the tools we'd planned to do it with it. Worked on several ideas, frm milling a dome, to using a soft drink bottle but none of them actually worked so it flew without a nose cone.

Was the tutor your launch lock/ release mechanism?
Did you try pneumatic fittings? That's the answer that came to me, reading long after the fact... Seems to me like a good choice to explore, they even come in a couple of diameters for trying different "nozzles."

I actually had designed and operated a vice type of sytem that locked the rocket onto the the o-rings and sealed it all up, but the day prior to the launches we were testing it and it broke, so I didn't have time to re-design and build something new to fix it.
