Really impressive. I can imagine those ancient engineers being as annoyed by the "Impossible, it must have been done by aliens" claims as we are by the Apollo hoax believers.

I don't think this is similar. the apollo hoax believers didn't see the things happening, but travellers to Baalbek do see the building infront of them. Anyhow, there are certain theories of how they could have built them. One of them that I heard when I went there is that the huge stones were wrapped with ropes and pulled by men and lots of horses (maybe huge animals like elephants were involved). To see them on photos is not as impressive as going there, where you can see how much huge they are compared to the man size. Where did these archtects' knowledge go? I don't know, however, when I went there, I saw the angle drawn on the rocks. Some people say this is the sign of freemasonry, which is believable. Freemasons keep their secrets. www.galenfrysinger.com/sidon.htmthe castle above in Sidon is the one that Alexander the Great conquered after fierce fights with the people there. It is the sign of resistance as taught in school programs.

I don't think this is similar. the apollo hoax believers didn't see the things happening, but travellers to Baalbek do see the building infront of them. No, the basic argument is exactly the same. "I don't understand how people could have done it, therefore they didn't." Only the alternative explanation that follows this appeal to personal incredulity is different - "it was a hoax" or "it was aliens". The denial of a great human achievement because the denier can't be bothered to think beyond everyday experience is identical.

Great stuff, lotr. The ancient ruins are impressive, to say the least. The knowledge these builders had so many thousands of years ago was exceptional.

thanks Turbo problem with that touristic place is that it is not watched over as should. You go and see garbage thrown by tourists there. Similarly, the beach is polluted around the castle, but they certainly deserve looking at.

"Cheer up!" they said, "It could be worse!" So I did, and it was.
