Even the most die-hard apollo-gist must admit, this does look rather cheap.

It did the job, it didn't have to look pretty.

Industrial tape is a strong, durable, and lightweight method for attaching non-structural materials such as mylar insulation and decals.

Since you are not an engineer you can be forgiven for not knowing that the proper way to attach films is with tape. Piercing fasteners would create a tear point.
Whether it "looks cheap" to you is irrelevant. You have no experience in this type of construction and therefore no basis upon which to judge its appropriateness.

Jack White makes some good observations regarding the LM. Sam Colby goes on further by pointing out that the panels don't appear to line up, and the joints are not seated flat. Did this LM actually go to the moon?

Jack White makes some good observations regarding the LM. No, he doesn't. Nor do they need to be. Yes. Any other questions?

Jack White makes some good observations regarding the LM.
No, he doesn't. That's because he has no idea what he's talking about. Nor, as we have also pointed out, does Sam Colby.
We've been through this before, on the Photos of Armstrong thread that LunarOrbit referenced. A lot of detailed explanations were posted refuting this very claim.
Read that thread, and let us know if you have anything to say not already covered.

The comments of Jack White and Sam Colby are made in extreme ignorance of space engineering in general and the engineering of the LM in particular. They are just elaborately begging the question. Their judgment about what visually constitutes a viable spacecraft is irrelevant.
The panels you see when looking at the exterior of the LM are for micrometeoroid and radiant heat transfer shielding only. They do not have to make a seal. And, in fact, it is prudent to use the bare minimum of fasteners, since continuity of surface is not a constraint and fasteners would provide a heat conduction path.

The picture you quoted, EO, refers to "masking tape" and "scotch tape". Not only can he not make up his mind, but only someone with no knowledge of how spacecraft of built would never have heard of Kapton and similar tapes. Have you read the Photos of Armstrong thread, where we thorougly debunked this "flimsy" argument (pun intended)? If so, do you retract your implicit claim that this is evidence of some sort of hoax? It's a particularly stupid argument, even for someone like Jack White. They claim all these billions of dollars and myriads of people were put into the "hoax", but are also claiming that NASA would be careless enough to make a lander with such a "sloppy" appearance. Paranoid conspiracy "theorists" like White and Colby have no trouble in throwing any argument out there, no matter how ignorant, but also no matter how much they contradict themselves. But then again, woo-woos are not interested in consistency. Only in trying to fool people who are ignorant and credulous - and too lazy to spend a few minutes looking up the truth. EO, do you really want to let yourself be fooled by such con men? Stand up for yourself!

Earth Orbit: Jack White's claims latest claims on the Aulis website have been thoroughly debunked at the Education Forum by experts from both here and the Bad Astronomy Bulletin Board: educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?s=6e3ee05ea943355884420c570d0a0f54&showforum=209Look at all of the first four pages -- Jack White started posting in late January 2005. Should you spend a few hours there, studying every post in minute detail, you should be able to hear the sound of a mind slamming shut.
