For anyone who hasn't noticed, the Loose Change forum, mainly concerned with 9/11 conspiracies, has been running an Apollo hoax thread for the last few weeks. One or two of our own members are already doing sterling service upholding the banner of rationality, and possibly explaining whether it waves.

Hmm, can't be bothered to register there, to be honest. Still, someone might like to point out that, contrary to Darque Matters assertion, the horizontal section of the fiducial on the astronaut's hand in the picture being discussed (here: www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/alsj/a14/as14-66-9232HR.jpg) is not missing. That is the larger central fiducial. The centre of the cross is actually in the black sky just above his hand, and the horizontal part can be seen cutting across the flagpole.

"Cheer up!" they said, "It could be worse!" So I did, and it was.

As you can tell by tracking across from the fiducial horizontally to the right,,,

Which raises the question - how are HBs so observant that they can spot details that suggest an anomaly, but so blind that they miss the details that contradict it?

Because they are working backwards from the conclusion they already decided on.

Wow....
After reading the first few pages I just don't know if I can continue.....Looks like a lost cause with those folks. There is simply no convincing some people. They just don't want to be convinced.

The worst part is The Quest. He is definitely an admin on a power trip. I looked around in other threads and have found more than a few instances where he has banned somebody just because he didn't agree with them. This was done even amid complaints from members in good standing saying they were interested in what the banned member had to say.

I had a look but figured it wasn't really worth it. I did notice a few of errors on the debunker's side though, though I'd have to wade through the posts again to locate them. I'm not sure it The Quest was being obnoxiously dumb, but the link to the Apollo 11 DVD was posted about 5 times and he still didn't seem to figure it out.

I must extend my admiration for our gallant explorers who ventured onto the dogpile that the Loose Change site seems to be- I don't know how you managed to keep your cool and respond in such a calm and measured way. I raise my hat to you all, chaps I felt like I was in the middle of 'Deliverance' - and that was just lurking... Good work!

I registered there. Maybe I'll post a few refutes, if I find the time to do it. Loose Change = low priority. EDIT-ADD: I got a PM. Basically it were some links to stuff, I didn't click because I don't like to click links in spam messages. Ironically, there was a PSS in the PM telling me to " STOP USING AOL AND AIM!!!! DOWNLOAD AND USE SKYPE NOW!!!!!!! WWW.SKYPE.COM !!!!!!!!!!! OMFG!!LK!!". Are they trying to get people to take them seriously, in this way?

When you realize that all those people likely are eligible to vote, you realize the fear our Founding Fathers had about the evils of the democracy they were about to unleash upon the world.

LOL!
Sad but true...
When I was reading some of their posts I was just amazed at how jaded some of the HB's were towards their government but didn't really seem to have any good reason.

Well, I finally watched A Funny Thing Happened...
If I hear another "perhaps", "is it possible", "conceivably" or that ridiculous upper crust Brit accent, I'm not going to be responsible for my actions... Absolutely no facts, no evidence, just ignorance, heresay, and conjecture in huge quantities. I was waiting for the real arguments, they never appeared. Very carefully crafted misinformation was all I saw, very thinly veiled. Fallacies abound...blatant lies. How much did his "investors" put into making that film? Someone might want to show it to them, they won't be happy... I can't believe folks actually find any real merit in this tripe...

Dave I think that the "investors" probably got a good return on their money. It is sad but true that there are many people who are willing to buy Sibrel's story - figuratively and literally. Jay's remarks made me think of a segment we had on a comedy programme about the leadup to the Australian Federal elections (The Election Chaser). It was called "...and these people vote?" Funny but oh so frightening because those people were serious and they did vote.
