Hi Bob. This was a private contractor lifting off today. NASA had competition now.

Hi Bob. This was a private contractor lifting off today. NASA had competition now. Bugger me. I thought NASA was the only space agency in the world...

You must have missed the sarcasm. NASA was never the only agency.

Their not even the best. The Russians have the most successful space program and rockets in history.
By the way, I don't miss anything, I just ignore it.

The Russians have the most successful space program and rockets in history. Define "successful."

The Wallops Island facility in Virginia has been launching rockets for decades. There can't be anything wrong with taking Moon Man's thread off-topic -- he does it all the time. I often chuckle at how HBs seem to think that Apollo somehow just popped magically out of the blue. I wonder if they have ever heard of Wallops Island, and particularly when it celebrated it's 3,000th rocket launch. Not in the 1990s, not in the 1980s, not the 1970s, not even the 1960s. On 24 March 1959.

Hey, they even launch Black Brants (the Canadian rocket system) at Wallops regularly...surely he knows that! (as well as Churchill and Poker Flats...)

I lucked out and saw the launch Saturday morning as I was leaving the firehouse. I'd forgotten about it. It was beautiful in the predawn sky.
