Steve Irwin died todayNot unexpected, though now how I was expecting him to die, a sting ray just seems to unimpressive a creature to have killed him (though I suppose that it may that that is the reason why it managed to get him, he underestimated it). (Edited by LunarOrbit to fix your link)

And of couse we know that economics teachers and the internet can never be wrong? I certainly hope an economics teacher would understand competitive, monopolistic, and oligopolistic markets, and how price determination and innovation occur in each of them. In particular, I hope an economics teacher would understand that while it is in the interests of an industry as a whole to form a cartel, it is not in the interests of each individual producer to join the cartel. I would find it distressingly possible for one to not do so, institutions can have an unfortunate tendancy to get creative with asssiming tutors to a subject, particularly if they have a shortage of them for that subject. For example the person teaching my databases class this year's real job was degining aircraft and offten gave the impression of being about two chapters ahead of us in the textbook (though he managed to do a good job anyway). And of couse there is the possibility of simple incompetence.

echnaton I think I heard about the possibility of exploring the AIDS drug but keeping it in secret from my economy teacher at school. I amsure I read something on the internet about that. And of couse we know that economics teachers and the internet can never be wrong? Even if you teacher has talked about it hypotheticly it doesn't mean that ey has gone through all the possible complications of keeping it secret, or considered the huge risk taken by doing so, if some other company comes up with something equivelent or better and start selling it all the money you spent on research and development goes down the drain. As for seeing it on the internet I've seen that the world is flat and the sun goes round it, Venus has a pleasent climate with a thriving civilisation, and that the British royal family are all lizards from outerspace, what makes drug companies hiding a cure for AIDS rather than making metric buttloads of cash off of it is any more likely than any of those? How exactly would the trail be kept secret? You can't just not account for the money and apes aren't exactly cheap to get hold of, especially without it being noticed, then there is the possibility of corporate espionage, if another company can get the pattent on the drug before you then again all that money goes bye bye. Also testing a drug for humans on apes has a variety of problems, they may not even get the disease (which IIRC is the case for AIDS) and if they do it may work differently, and they may well react to the drug differently, which has a good chance of meaning that all you got out of your super expensive secret drug trial is a cure for AIDS in apes, not terribly valuable.

The quote: "Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning". - Rich Cook Applies to more than just programing, as you just experianced.

Simple, unless you know they are public domain or you have permission of the copyright holder don't post them.

Possibly, would depend on their setup, if its all running on one machine then it would be more likely to be the database (or rather its management system) having gotten messed up somehow.

Seems like it was just a temporary glitch, its back up again. Did anyone else see the glitch?

Is it just me or did BAUT just fall down and go boom again?
All I am getting is the message "This application is having problems. Can you please email us and tell us what you were trying to do? Please return to the Bad Astronomy and Universe Today homepage." when trying to view the forum

Anyone else having trouble? I keep getting a database error. A little while ago I couldn't get to it at all, it seems to be working again though now.

So, I'm the only one getting: Seem to be, I'm reading the Conspiracy Theories section as I post this. Hmm, it did just glitch on me with a message saying that I wasn't "allowed in this section" and to go back to the homepage, which also didn't want to allow me, but it seems to have fixed itself.

It's been down for me for a long time now, is no one else getting errors? As of just now BAUT is working fine for me and hasn't had significant problems since it recovered from the problems that lead me to first post this thread.
