I know this is an old thread but I've just been looking at the same or similar photo and I think I have the answer.. The visor acts as a fish eye lense which alters the perspective drastically. The top of the helmet in the reflected image is in the area of the lensing effect that due to the distortion seems to be the most forward projecting part of the image. Plus the guy in the reflection is probably leaning forward which exagerates the effect.
