Thanks for the review - much appreciated. Slight correction: the G mission was the first lunar landing; Apollo 12 to 14 were H series missions. Even 15 was originally a H mission, but with the cancellation of Apollo 20 and 19 looking like also being cut, they scrubbed the original A15 mission and made it the first of the J series.
So it's worth seeing? I'm a big geek too; I often don't care about the plot but instead want to look at the footage they got!

Not to disparage today's software designers, but another thing about the MIT people was they had to be lean; there was limited space for the code and so could not be bloated or inefficient.

I got infracted because I posted this picture: They said it was because I accused him of sockpuppetry (which we know he is, but I didn't accuse him of). When I appealed on the grounds of that I did not accuse him of being a sockpuppet, but simply used sarcasm to say that I didn't believe him (my dog believes you, my action figure believes you, etc) they changed it and cited me for being off-topic. *sigh*

What type of projection was it? I'm presuming a Mercator? The projection determines what it could be used for in terms of accuracy of various aspects such as direction, distance, area, etc.
I think the ORB is simply an internal designation.

Off topic, but it was fun that Neil Armstrong had a little dig at the HBs last night when speaking at the Sydney Convention Centre. He was introducing the 16mm landing clip, which was compared to the montage of LRO images, side by side and from the same viewpoints. He commented upon the images showing the LM descent stage, and said that the LRO images should be proof enough to anyone that we went to the Moon, but you know these conspiracy believers.....
The place erupted in laughter.

You really should read 'Deke!' when trying to figure out the crew assignments; it gives you the background for why things happened (for the most part).

Yes, there is such a thing a polar orbit. Instead of going around the Earth roughly around the Equator, the orbit is shifted to go from pole to pole. The advantage of this orbit is that it passes over all of the Earth, where equatorial orbits do not. That is why they are favoured for things like mapping satellites. The disadvantage to them is that they take a lot more fuel to get into, since you are not utilising the rotation of the Earth.
