However, some of us have faith in the existence/nonexistence of God. If you asked a theist if God exists, he'll say "Yes." If you asked an atheist: "No." If you asked an agnostic: "I don't know." The truthful answer in all three cases is "I don't know". What we're really talking about is belief.

Some people don't feel they have to be able to prove his existence in order to believe in him, or they point to things like "love" as proof. I need proof in order to believe but I am also willing to conceed that "absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence".

Well I have more proof that God exists than I do that Julius Ceaser did.

I would call myself an agnostic, because my answer to the questions about God, afterlife, the Meaning Of It All &c is "Does it matter?"
I don't really care - it would be interesting to know, but regardless of the answer I will still act in exactly the same way.

Well I have more proof that God exists than I do that Julius Ceaser did. I don't think so. There is plenty of evidence of Caesar's life - contemporary historical records and literature, coins and artefacts of various kinds. Nil for God.

Seems to me that we are asking the wrong question. The only question that we can really answer is “Do you have faith in God?” One may easily have faith, no faith or be unsure of one’s faith and no one answer is necessarily better than the other. This moves the answer from offering meaningless “proofs” of something that requires no proof, to discussing personal experiences and attempting to understand one another.

I can show you over 1000 hand written documents about the God's existance, and that's just the Hostorical story of the Gospels, it doesn't include copies of history books of the OT, how many do you have for Julius Ceasar? I can show you a large number of paintings and other artefacts that are said to depict God, his messangers and his prophets. If you are going to use this same sort of evidence for Ceasar, why is it not evidence of God?

To slightly misquote the piece linked in the OP, if atheism is a belief then not collecting stamps is a hobby. All a matter of definitions. Interesting how theists and atheists alike prefer a narrow definition of religion. Maybe each group doesn't like to be compared to the other...

Reminds me of the line from FTETTM, "Is that all there is?"
We will never know until we die.
We either blink into nothingness or carry on in an other "dimension" for lack of a better word.
I choose to carry on.

And maybe not even then... if we blink into nothingness we won't know it.

You don't have to wait until you die. You were dead before you were born.

Actually many do, you just hear about the fancy ones that think they were Celeopatra and not those that were Bob Smith the milk truck driver.
