I still think that a Clinton/Obama, or a Obama/Clinton Ticket would be a shoe in.

Not going to happen. They hate each other. Or at least, Mrs. Clinton hates Obama.

I might actually vote for McCain over Clinton. Put me down right now as undecided..
For some strange reason, when I see John McCain, I think he looks like an astronaut. And I have a lot of respect for him. Clinton is just saying what she thinks people want to hear. I certainly don't hear any conviction in her speeches that I've seen.

Really? I do. For one, she has a science policy; why would she bother with one if she didn't care, since no one else does, either? I voted for her, now Kucinich has dropped out of the race. (Sniff . . . .) I think she's the Eleanor Roosevelt of our generation, and we all know how hated she was.

Okay, NOW I've got a definite hit on my prediction of someone dying who had affected the lives of millions but would be swiftly forgotten by society. Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, died yesterday. He finally failed his saving throw vs. death.

Did I get mine right?
To quote me "Anyway, my predictions. It will continue to get dark at night at most latitudes. There will be volcano eruptions and earthquakes. There will be a lot of panic buying on December 24th by drunk males."

Come on, we still have snow storms here. Please don't mention December 2008 yet. I beg you.

Tell me about it. Winter is not going away very soon, We just had 15-20 cm of snow again yesterday, and expect more starting tomorrow night. I am really getting sick of it. It started in November, so we've had four months of winter so far... Global Warming?

Seems to have crossed the Atlantic and reached here today. Not snow, thankfully, but very high winds and a lot of rain. Combination of onshore winds, very low air pressure and spring tides means there are flood warnings in place for all the coastal areas.

I started to write a very long answer to this, but I don't really have the time this morning. To sum it up. The primary problem causing the current credit squeeze and liquidity crunch comes from mortgage backed securities (MBS). There are certainly problems for some companies that have written credit derivatives with MBS as the underlying security, but the problems with banks and investments banks is that they own highly leveraged MBS that have become highly illiquid (can't readily be sold at a price near the intrinsic value) and whose value has plummeted. Aside from mortgage related derivatives, the credit derivative market is quite functional. If you want to go by a five year swap to cover an investment in a corporate bond, there are plenty of people willing and able to sell you one. If you want to unwind a hedge, you can do that too.

A recession is a danger at this point, but not what I would call a full-on collapse.
