This was the only way I could think of having the authors of Clavius see this, but I happen to know the source for the editing/annotations of figure 1 (Man on the Moon) on www.clavius.org/manmoon.html. This image was originally annotated in this way for an article in a British conspiracist/supernatural tabloid called X-Factor magazine, circa-1998 (possibly earlier). I believe the article may even have been the first issue of this magazine. If no one can find details on said magazine for the purpose of sourcing the image, I can probably find my own copy of it somewhere. Then again, people may find this completely irrelevant and mock me even for mentioning something so trivial. But trivia is what I do.

Thank you very much. I would very much like to credit the appropriate source for the annotations and to obtain any clearances necessary to reproduce it (although it seems to be everywhere already).

Since the images themselves are public domain and all X-Factor did was put some numbers on the images, I doubt any special permission needs to be obtained for using those specific images. Anyway, I'll retrieve specific publication details and post them here - probably tomorrow. My old X-Factor folder didn't make it here in the move, but I think I know who has it.

Annotating a public-domain image creates a new derived work that can be considered intellectual property. Since I am using exactly their images, they may have something to say about whether I'm allowed to.

Ok, the images come from the "Faked Moon Landings?" article on pages 41-46 in X-Factor issue 2, (Copyright Marshall Cavendish, 119 Wardour Street, London, WIV 3TD, England) 1997. The Marshall Cavendish website is listed as www.mcmedia.com but this site seems to have disappeared in the past 8 years. While X-Factor has annotated the images with the letters used to reference the images the the article, they themselves credit NASA for the photos. There's no credit specifically given to anyone at X-Factor magazine for the annotations, but the possibly relevant X-Factor staff of this issue is as follows: Head of Editorial: Martin Annable Senior Development Editor: Rebecca St. Johnson Editor: Brenda Marshall Art Editor: Jayne Swanson Design: Steve Horton, Wendy Kwok Picture Research: Sophie Mortimer, Angela Parman I hope this information wasn't a total waste of time to retrieve

X-Factor would be correct in crediting NASA for the photos, but X-Factor themselves has a right claim the the annotated versions as their intellectual property.
Thank you very much for finding those names. It wasn't a waste even if the publication no longer exists and the people no longer care, because now I can at least credit the source of the annotations correctly and can attest to having done due diligence in obtaining permission to use them.
