Well that attitude is now so early 2000's passe. In this post modern Obama world, a big conspiracy doesn't hold the same intrigue...

CTs are going to have to invent new conspiracies. That, or just latch on to old ones that, in their own little, reality deprived world, they consider haven't been debunked (contrary to the real world).

Actually, I read quite a while ago that AIDS had been invented in a lab and was introduced deliberately into the world in 1981 for population control.
Tell me, if it really came from monkeys, why hasn't it been around for centuries? There's always been a number of perverts in the world who will shag anything, including animals.

Well Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) has likely been around for centuries. A version of SIV mutated into a form that could infect humans (HIV) and entered the human population in the late 1900's (if not even eariler) and started to spread after WW2, though it wasn't wide spread or recognised as a disease until the late 70's. The earilest documented case is from 1959, though there is one that is believed to be eariler in 1955.
ETA: It doesn't have to have been introduced via sex either, it could have been introduced via a bite or other wound.
Of course you could ask why bird flu hasn't been for centuries too (it has, but again the most recent one is a mutation of an older virus.)

What critical thinking skills did you use to evaluate the claim? For example, did you consider the known AIDS patients from well before 1981?

Actually, I read quite a while ago that AIDS had been invented in a lab and was introduced deliberately into the world in 1981 for population control. Well, I heard from the South African government that showering after sex can protect you against AIDS and that eating garlic and beetroot can cure AIDS. There are a lot of bizarre ideas out there. This would be almost amusing if South Africa didn't have such a severe AIDS epidemic. This site has some suggestions about why people believe in AIDS-related conspiracy theories. www.snopes.com/medical/disease/aids.asp

Do you know what really works well against AIDS? Not having sex with anyone but your spouse (assuming they are following the same guideline).

As much as I disagree with you in general, you are making a valid point here, Jason.

Not using IV drugs is another good way to prevent AIDS.
