The book continues to be interesting, Dwight! And I finally realize why only a black and white camera was on the moon during Apollo 11. I didn't know the reasons before, especially since colour camera's were used on previous missions.
And I'm finding I am more interested lately in looking at videos shot on the moon. See, that's what the joy of learning is all about - spurring on our interests in different areas and having fun at the same time.
I may have to order some Spacecraft films in HD ! I do have a few DVD's about the Space Program but the quality is generally very poor - even the audio.

echnaton, as a government paid agent you should know the answer - the lunar set had not yet had the final coat of paint to the backdrops. In order to preserve the illusion of a realistic lunarscape, the SSTV monochrome camera was used.

So Dwight, I've finished your book. Now what to do? Maybe your next one could be about the S Band transmitters and data transmission in general... I've never understood how radio waves and such work - even my TV remote puzzles me. Funny you should mention that. I became a radio and computer communications engineer in part because of the inspiration I got watching Apollo communicate across those vast distances as a kid. The technology is completely obsolete now, but I've been collecting all the information I can about Apollo communication systems, and I've toyed with the idea of writing a book. But talking to Dwight, I've realized what a huge investment of time it is to write a book, and I just don't know that I have the stick-to-it-ness to follow it through.

Hey Dwight, my copy finally arrived too. I lost track of how many times I had to answer those stupid notices from Amazon asking if I wanted to keep the order open. I had to keep doing it for your book and also for Frank O'Brien's book on the Apollo computer, which came about a week ago.
If we ever meet I hope you can sign it for me. :-)

Oh, and it was a real trip to see all that late 1960s-vintage RCA video equipment. I spent my college summers doing TV broadcast engineering on RCA equipment that looked very much the same...

I will gladly sign it! As I was telling Ginnie, I will probably get a set of bookplates. I dont know when I will come out the the US, and a bookplate will certainly keep the costs down. I hope you enjoy the read.
