Does anyone know of any particularly good websites about these things for beginners? I've looked at quite a few but most of them seemed to be refresher courses or in-depth information for those who already understoood a fair bit.
I'm thinking of the sort of thing that people like Margamatix need to read, and others on bulletin boards who clearly don't have much of an idea about the subject and who resort to name-calling.
Such a site needs to quickly get people enthusiastic about the subject and show the benefits of learning it, then cover all the necessary stuff in a fairly quick, practical and simple way.
I don't know at what stage of life people in various countries are taught critical thinking, but I left school at 15 after passing School Certificate and was certainly not taught anything about it. I sort-of evolved my own system, but can now see that there were times when I thought I was thinking logically but wasn't, and few people I knew were any good at it. It was only after joing the BABB and this forum that I started to learn about it -- in my 50s.
Personally I think it's a really bad thing that we weren't taught about it in high school at ages 13-15. Except for algebra and geometry, most of what I was taught at high school was a waste of time for me because there was too much emphasis on unnecessary academic stuff and not enough about ordinary day-to-day life -- communication, relationships, working with people of all types, and getting on in the world. Independent thinking was not encouraged at all. The only thing schools wanted out of their pupils in the 60's was conformity.
