Ravell, you raise an excellent point.
Next time someone suggests Kubrick did it, ask them if they are suggesting the moonlandings were faked in Shepperton, because that's what they imply. Did Harold Wilson know about it?
The list of points by the HBer is sort of Nasascamish in that it is filled with incomplete thoughts and irrelevances.

I assume that the HBers who mention Kubrick assume he filmed 2001 in the USA.

It's surprising (and, as an Englishman, I have to say a little disappointing!) how few people seem to realise that a lot of the big 'American' blockbuster films are shot over here in the good old UK. We have some amazing film studios here, but no-one seems to realise where they are.

I'm sure you'll admit it's a little odd to think that an American director--and Kubrick was born in Manhattan--filmed exclusively in the UK after 1962. Even Full Metal Jacket.

It was filmed in its entirety in the UK, even the "Vietnam" parts. Good ol' Pinewood Studios, among other locations. (With the minor exception of some footage of an actual Parris Island graduation filmed by someone else.) Kubrick didn't like flying and didn't see the point to leaving home if he didn't have to, so he wasn't going to film on location if he could fudge something up in Beckton.

Why go to Vietnam when you can bring Vietnam to you?

Unfortunately there has been a really bad case of the stupid bug going around. Seems to be spread through Youtube, facebook and other Internet mediums.
I finished having a healthy debate with someone on FB who believed that if everyone stopped paying tax we would be better off!!.. He then went on to say that HAAPA was used to create the japanese Tsunami and that Nixon was actually a Russian spy.... He babbled a bit then started on about NWO and some Guy in the US called Alex Jones ( I refuse to look him up as my brain probably couldn't deal with his nonsense). He then went on to say that the NWO controls everything we do. At that point my inner intestine jumped up my digestive system and tried to strangle my brain...
On the kubrick stuff my friends Dad worked on the 2001 film back in the 60s and subsequently on a film called silent running.
He gave some background on the film when i spoke to him about the whole hoax thing a few years back.
Kubrick hated flying and never travelled outside the UK. He was a pain to work with as he never directly talked to people he would always get the assistant director to talk which people found strange. The film was released in Cinerama which was a three screen projection yet it was filmed not with three camera that other cinerama films were made in but with single wide angle 70mm. He also stated that all the effects were done in film which was a real pain as the negatives could not be developed and they lost some of the film.
on the hoax he simply said and i quote " what a load of bollocks!" . He felt that if Kubrick had the time to film two films at the same time for the length of the Apollo landing they have been smoking something they shouldn't. He was saying that it took them 2 years to do principal filming and post production and that was almost everyday with Kubrick being there to supervise all the effects shots so he wouldn't have had time to do a 5 min short ... He also said that the footage of the moon landings was real as there isnt a film set on earth big enough to get the lighting and effects and even today with all the technology we have it still cant be replicated to that standard.
Silly facts.. The gate effects at the end of 2001 were used in Dr Stangelove first and The beatles magical mystery tour for the song Flying.

Yeah, if you look at Kubrick's film list, it becomes obvious that two major films at once would not have been his style. Nor would anything involving, you know, human emotion. It sure would've been pretty, though.

I loved Silent Running at the time. I recently streamed it to my TV for a rewatch and was disappointed by how horribly dated it seemed due to the overpowering Earthmuffin flavor. Still, Huey, Dewey, and Louie are among SF's coolest (and most underated) robots, IMO.
