Lunar Orbit, yes those ones exactly. The 'seem' to have no purpose, but must have. As for the rubber room pics I've seen most of them already but the diagrams are new. Thanks all.

I was on Googleearth and looking at the Cape I noticed a few S like roads a few miles away from the launchpads... I can't take a close look with my internet connection, but wonder why you assume they are roads. Have you checked the scale to ascertain whether or not they they could be roads? Could they be pipes instead? They don't look much like roads to me -- more like a layout of competition tracks for BMX bikes.

Kiwi, I 'assume' they are roads until somebody gives me a fairly reasonable explanation. Yes they do look like bmx tracks a bit, however I doubt Nasa would allow that near the pads. They can't be fire breaks.
No I did not notice if they could be pipes. Maybe but for what? Hmmm.

If you figure that out you might get somewhere, but a picture without any scale to it is pretty useless. Why would anyone build roads like that? You say the patterns are miles from the launchpads, so why wouldn't Nasa allow its staff to build a temporary BMX track for the holidays or a weekend if there were no launches planned? Do you know whether or not Nasa actually owns that piece of property? You're always going to see "strange" looking things on aerial views of earth, but just as UFOs become IFOs once they are identified, oddball-looking things become perfectly ordinary once you know what they are. Are you sure you're not reading far too much into this? They are just patterns on the ground, after all. I've seen people claiming that circular irrigation patterns are obviously aliens' flying saucers, which is pretty nutty.

Just been looking at them and I wonder if there is a track but it is flooded or never was a track and it is cut into the swamp there? (if indeed it is a swamp)? Bit of a loop at one end, some sort of boat race track?

They are located in the area between Launch Complex 39B and the Shuttle Landing Facility, well within the boundaries of the Kennedy Space Center. Topographic maps list the area as marshland. They appear to be the same size as a single lane of a nearby highway; they also appear to be flat as there are no indications of shadows, while buildings on either side show clear shadows. The obvious ones are solid white (maybe gravel, sand, or salt), but there are many other (older / less used / overgrown) paths connecting and crossing which clearly look like tracks from four-wheel vehicles. Many of these in turn connect to nearby roads. None of these are visible on aerial photos from early 1999, though that does show several further west in a more grid-style layout (still present on Google maps).

I think I've discovered the explanation for those roads. I vaguely recall seeing a documentary years ago that said the Kennedy Space Center was built on land that had previously been a small town before it was appropriated by the government. So I looked on Wikipedia and one of the references used for the article about Cape Canaveral is this page: www.spaceline.org/capehistory/1a.html
