Sounds like our friend fattydash/piersquared is in serious need of some verbal Lomotil.
Too bad he didn't bother to read and actually understand the verbiage he posted (and reposted, and reposted...) as prosaic answers to all of his questions are there. It's a rather interesting summary of the various initial problems with the lunar ranging system and the various sources and magnitudes of the resulting errors, made hard to read by some weird stuttering problem in fattydash's text editor; it has a habit of repeating entire paragraphs. Fattydash, I recommend switching editors, filing a bug report with your software vendor or reading the manual, whichever is most applicable.
A transcription error caused by difficulty with a speaker's Texas accent on the phone, the offset in the surveyed position of the ground telescope -- all these things are all too familiar to anyone who has participated in a large and complex scientific or engineering endeavor in the real world. Too bad fattydash doesn't live in it with us.

So, to summarize Fattydash's posting tactics: "Well, maybe I'll just have to try the same thing again to see if it works..." (Creates sockpuppet account) "Good try! I'll try a slow, straight-in approach, just to keep them on their toes!" (Creates sockpuppet account) "Three strikes, and I'm almost there!" (Creates sockpuppet account) "Ha! I'm getting through to them! They'll never suspect it's me again!" (Creates sockpuppet account) "SUCCEEEESS!!!!

Oh yeah. With this display of maturity, I'm convinced -- this guy is most assuredly a doctor. He's no more a doctor than he is an engineer, but I can certainly believe he's under the care of a mental health professional. If not, he should be.

Meh. Based on just what we've seen here? Obnoxious, certainly, but that isn't a diagnosis.

Is this guy related to Dennis Markuze? This posting style is eerily similar.

Ack! You didn't just do that! Once you name it, it WILL show up.

He's not a doctor but he plays one on the Internet. Something of a faux virtual MD.

I notice the forum new members is switched off. I went to do a test to see if captcha is switched on.
The reason I did this was because most captcha scripts don't work through a proxy server....... so I wondered whether that was a viable sockpuppet deterrent?

I notice the forum new members is switched off. Yes, I have decided to close registration for an unspecified period of time. It will reopen, I just can't say when. I suspect this bothers fattydash more than it does me... I'm perfectly content with the members we have now. I don't know whether or not captcha's work through proxies, although I don't see why not. There's no real difference between a proxy server and any of the other servers that internet traffic passes through between internet users and the websites they visit. But captcha's aren't really meant to be a deterrent to human trolls any way. They're meant more for spam bots that aren't capable of reading the images.

To get rid of proxies and other tools used by humans you'd need something like dnsbl, but I think that requires much more control over the system than proboards allow. Perhaps they could set something up, allowing board owners the option to use it or not.
