Here's mine: The Eagle Transporter from Space: 1999. I was about 10 years old when this show on. I had a couple of plastic models of the Eagle as a kid, but they've been gone a long, long time. A company came out with a very nice, quite accurate die-cast Eagle several years ago, so I now have one on my desk at work. Man, the future used to be cool! The central pod can be replaced with several different variants and even the forward command module can detach and operate on its own. The Eagle may not make perfect sense, but it was very cool to a ten year-old interested in space. Anyone else have a favorite?

It's a tough choice, I think I like 'em all. My gut is telling me to go with the Millennium Falcon.

Wasn't this a topic on BAUT?
Millenium Falcon, baby! Who wouldn't want to fly the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy?

As far as realism is concerned the Eagle transporter from Space: 1999 looks pretty good. I've never seen the show though. I'm assuming it doesn't have lightspeed engines etc.

The Eagle was supposed to be near-future technology. It looks pretty good for something to be used on the moon or in orbit -- but the show had it landing on planets with Earth-like atmospheres, which was somewhat less plausible.
Also -- the Eagle was designed by Brian Johnson, who won an Oscar for his effects work on The Empire Strikes back -- for a Millennium Falcon tie-in.

You can't base your favorite SF ship on realism. Half the fun of the Millenium Falcon is the cool noises it makes and how it banks to make turns.

For what it's worth, the Eagle makes a sound kind of like an unbalanced washing machine. I do like the Falcon, too. In fact, I'm building a kit of it for a friend. It is a very original and iconic design. I just don't have one on my desk at work.

Other favorites of mine include the SS Cygnus from The Black Hole, the first USS Enterprise from the Star Trek movies, the Colonial Vipers from Battlestar Galactica, the USS Discovery from 2001, Slave I from The Empire Strikes Back, the Argo/Yamato from Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato , the Phoenix from Battle of the Planets.
You know, pretty much anything from the late seventies/early eighties when I was a kid. I'm having a hard time coming up with a recent space ship design that strikes me as cool. The Serenity from Firefly is really too ugly to match up. None of the Star Wars prequels had ships as cool as the Falcon or an X-Wing. Newer Star Trek ships are re-workings of the Enterpirse. What else is cool these days?

I was just watching The Search for Spock. The Klingon spaceship looks pretty cool. Plus it has that cloaking device:
Can't see it can you?

I never though the Liberator was all that cool, but then I'm not British.

I always liked this pod... In fact, I like all the craft in 2001.
