In extremis it would be technically possible for the returning officer to contact the voters and ask them, but it's never come to that: if the first count is disputed, it has never taken more than three recounts to arrive at a result. One of the more amusing cases was Rupert Allason, who lost his parliamentary seat in 1997 by 7 votes. Earlier, he had sued a popular TV panel show for slander, as they had suggested he might be considered a "conniving little sh1t". He lost the case, so you can imagine the glee with which the show announced the election result ;D

Your hatred of Al Gore really twists you up inside, doesn't it? You hate him for his stance on global warming, a stance that agrees with the vast majority of scientists working in that area. You also hate him for his actions in Florida -- actions that I have shown to be legal and moral. I imagine you hate him for lots of other unfounded reasons, too. So -- whatever, Jason. Just keep on hating Al Gore. Keep on pretending that he is somehow worse than the guy who used the courts to stop a legal process in Florida and then went on to become likely the worst president this country has ever had to suffer. Boy, how am I supposed to respond to that? The only response I can think of that would be on the same level is "if you love Al Gore so much why don't you marry him?", probably spoken in an appropriate playground sing-song fashion.

I do like Al Gore, but I don't think you'd really approve of me marrying him. Everything you've offered in way of attacking his character has been crap. Just wanted to point that out.
