Matt, welcome to the board.
Having worked for and with a number of people who worked on Apollo and its predecssors - and some of them are still in the harness - I have often had similar thoughts. I've had extensive opportunities to gauge their competence and integrity. It annoys me when some puffed-up con man or scientific illiterate, who would get laughed out of an eighth-grade physics class and in most cases has contributed nothing useful to society, makes such ignorant and offhand slurs as are the HBs' mindless stock in trade.
Individually, none of these HBs amount to anything. But the collective and cumulative effect of HB -ism in particular and CT-ism in general is to corrode the public's ability to think rationally and to damage the belief that any human enterprise can have elements of the grand and noble. And that, my friend, is a crime.

I think when the next one shows up with some baseless piece of "evidence", I will tend to get more into the tech discussions with those here as opposed to trying to make them realize that "2+2=4"... They're all the same, narrow thinking and ignorant. I do wish it was different. I am amazed that there are such folks existing, but again, all I have to do is watch TV to find out their mental picture of the world...warped and lemming-like...

And that, my friend, is a crime. HBs often quote some variation on the phrase, "If you tell a lie often enough, it will become the truth." They say this with the assumption that it's the Evil Government TM that "always" does the lying. Ironically, in so many discussions about conspiracies, it is the CTs who are willfully repeating untruths.
