On a another forum I participate in the issues of nuclear winter and the Alar scare were cited as examples of "junk science". I have not followed either subject since back in the day but a quick googling left me with the immpersion that many scientists still back these theories.

I thought the alar thing was history. we no longer use it although is was never proven harmful.IIRC Nuclear Winter is still a bone of contention however. I think many scientists still see as a reasonable theory.

For the record, the point behind "Nuclear Winter" has to do with lots of dust being kicked up into the air, blocking out the sun, right? I never researched the subject, so I dunno. S'why I'm askin'
