what is that? I am not too familiar with ancient American films. I know a bit about new ones like Armageddon, Titanic, King Kong(the new one).. and other movies that are "of my age"

William Shatner = James T. Kirk, captain of the Starship Enterprise.

That's a shame. Older American movies include some of the best movies ever made. (And I watch a lot of movies from more than just the US.) At any rate, William Shatner played one of the biggest cultural icons in the US, Captain Kirk of Star Trek.

They've only been around for about 100 years. Reminds me though of my son. I tell him that he should see this or that movie. He immediately asks what year did it come out. He is missing out on a lot of great cinema.

Denny Crane: [walking through a crowd of reporters] dennycranelaw.com. Pictures, bios, hobbies. I once captained my own spaceship. Muli-talented.

Some more great Denny Crane quotes: ''Hell, if I had a nickel for every woman I promised to marry in exchange for sex...actually, I do.'' [moving through another crowd of reporters] "Denny Crane, Trix are for Kids... Denny Crane, coo-coo for Cocoa Puffs." ''I'm an ex-Marine! I was a trained sniper. Or was it a pilot?'' ''Don't waste your time trying to get in my head. There's nothing there.'' [walking through yet another crowd of reporters] ''Pop goes the weasel. How are you? Denny Crane. Still cuckoo for Coco Puffs. Who's your daddy? Denny Crane. Pop goes the weasel.'' [talking in his sleep] ''Denny Crane. Denny Crane. Denny Crane.'' ''I'd just like to say that most of us begin life suckling on a breast. If we're lucky we end life suckling on a breast. So anybody who's against breasts is against life itself. Denny Crane.'' "If all else fails and you think you've lost... pretend you've won! Works for our president. " [talking to still more reporters] “Denny Crane. My poop doesn’t smell. Comes out in pretty colors, pastels. Denny Crane.” Cz

As would I. Even an Ed Wood piece of crap like Bride of the Monster has some passable cinematography and a fairly impressive performance from Bela Lugosi. At worst there's still lots to laugh at. But at the other end, I would lead a sad life without some of the film noir classics. I learned how to light and photograph by watching them. And occasionally how to build sets. There's a reason why those films endure. Anyone who can't appreciate Sterling Hayden in The Asphalt Jungle watches "movies," not "films."

I pity him. He will never know the joy of cuddling with his sweetie and watching Casablanca.
Rick: "If it's December 1941in Casablanca, what time is it in New York?" Sam: "My watch stopped." Rick: I'll bet they're asleep in New York. They're asleep all across America."
