According to a friend who was attended 3 separate high schools in Washington State in 2004, the history lesson regarding the moon landings consisted of watching the Fox program promoting the idea that the landings were faked and nothing more. I have no idea if he is exaggerating or if this is still going on today.
Why doesn't Myth Busters do a show on this?
This makes me tempted to call up the local public schools and find out if this is true. I think I will.

Some schools use it as a critical-thinking exercise. They show the film and then have students talk about what's wrong with it and why. So be sure you get the whole story in each case.

Why doesn't Myth Busters do a show on this? Because they would have to blow up a Saturn 5. That would destroy their set and a good deal of surrounding real estate.

Only if you don't mind explaining to Las Vegas CSI why your rocket booster landed in the middle of their casino strip.

Bill, I was fortunate. During the Apollo missions I was in Grades 5 and on. It was happening right in front of us - it was a learning experience for ALL.

Ginnie, I have to ask - is that Robert Winston in your avatar? No, its me at a Halloween Party about 25 years ago. My eyes were closed at the time the picture was taken, to I cut and paste eyes in from another photo of me. Kinda freaky looking, eh? I don't know who Robert Winston is. Okay just looked him up on Wikipedia. I see now. EDIT: changed my avatar again though, since there's another Groucho on the forum.

that's no Rob Winston. there is a definate Mouse dash deficit .
I unfortunately have to work for the DCSF (Dept Children Schools and Families (Previously the DfES Departmentment for Education and Skills)) even prior to the fox proggy way back in the thatcherite years of the UK, we had to do a report on "why the lunar landings were hoaxed" as an exercise in sorting through BS (not Bart Sibrel) to attune ourselvers to the various interpretations of history and to make us think. unfortunately I now have to deal with Creationist schools and what can only be described as Luddite/saboteur schools that will not allow their students even knowledge of computers, or fundie schools that teach various religious doctrines and then blame us for taking the "systematic conventional" view that pi does not equal 4 and that the Eart is not the centre of the universe.
you have to just love the independant school system, wspescially as we know how much these Enlightened parents are paying for this Edumacation
EDIT.. due two my fowl smelling anne grandma

We pulled our children out of school for various reasons, and home educated them. Having looked into the subject extensively beforehand, I have come to the conclusion that the phrase "school education" is an oxymoron, just like "military intelligence".

"Military Intelligence" is not any oxymoron, as so many people believe.
It is a category -- somewhere between Worm Intelligence and Dung Beetle Intelligence, if I recall correctly.
;D ;D

Military Intelligence is a difficult and noble endeavor...just that it sometimes (often?) gets lost in the translation.
