I can understand what they are going through.
For the Sea King Board of Inquiry (the crash of a RAN Sea King helicopter during relief operations in Ache in 2005), we had to pull up a LOT of stuff from files. An earlier crash, what decsions were made about crashworthiness, what design standards were applied, who made decisions, etc.
These files were all 'archived' in our headquarters building. During renovations and moves, the files had been placed into boxes, sometimes labelled, sometimes not, sometimes incorrectly labelled.
We knew the relevant files were there - we just didn't know which boxes they were in!
We had to pull out every box, examine every file, to eventually get all the required material. It took quite some time.
That's in a room the size of a large garage.
NASA has to go through something like a large warehouse!

The thing is that the tapes all contain redundant material. In the case of the TV footage, it will be the best quality available due to the fact that it isnt scan converted. Other than that between Mark Gray's DVD set, and the HSK footage recently discovered and available from www.honeysucklecreek.net all the material is out there and available. I personally think it is only a matter of time until the tapes are found. There have been a number of tips and so forth that have lead to other recordings from places that aren't even NASA (more on that later), and I'll be making a trip to the relevant places shortly to see exactly what _they_ have. Some of the stuff may go as far back as Sputnik...but that is only speculation at this point. cheers Dwight
