Well went you figureit out, let them know so they can impose their will on Australia. Our apple growers will thank you. Maybe New Zealand have forget to include apples in the list of product included in the free trade agreement You can verified that. Joke apart it seem that New Zealand Government have not going far enough to settle that 88 years old dispute to WTO yet. -"He noted the Government's decision to raise the issue at a World Trade Organization (WTO) committee meeting did not go far enough.(2005). "Growers wanted Australia to be taken through the WTO's appeals process. Discussions on Closer Economic Relations should be suspended at ministerial and official levels and the Government should withdraw support for Australia as a member of the free- trade Cairns Group," said North. "Australia has banned New Zealand apples because of a perceived risk of the pipfruit disease fire blight. The ban dates back to an outbreak in Auckland in 1919." english.people.com.cn/200506/23/eng20050623_191936.htmlEdited for spelling and precision.

You need to get a little up to date. Since then the WTO has "resolved it" and told Australia they have to take our apples as there is no risk from the fruit themselves. Still no dice. As noted by the growers, about the only action we have left is to put sanctions on Australia ourselves, and that'd do what exactly?

Well ,well ,well. When this was adopted? As noted by the growers, about the only action we have left is to put sanctions on Australia ourselves, and that'd do what exactly? That is part of the process after a WTO decision the winner can impose sanctions. What kind of sanctions NZ have adopted? edit spelling

Yeah, you'd have to stop exporting yourselves to Australia. ;-) Seriously, though, I agree with PhantomWolf. There's no scientific reason for Australia to block apple imports from New Zealand. The move appears to be largely to protect Skippy orchards from Kiwi competition. Now this is slightly different from what America and Europe are doing with their farmers. I don't think they impose any restrictions on imports from Third World countries, they just subsidise their own farmers to produce things in competition. But I think the Australian action is as wrong, in it's own small way, as the actions of America and Europe against Third World farmers.

Globalization is a new event, famine, disease and catastrophe have been around since the beginning. Now days we can "blame" them on the big nations. The only waty to stop globalization is to drop all the satellites, shut down the shipping, the airlines...or have some magical "UN" start dictating a benevolent, all encompassing, solution. I ain't holding my breath.

Globalization is a new event, (snip) The only waty to stop globalization is to .... have some magical "UN" start dictating a benevolent, all encompassing, solution. I ain't holding my breath. What happen if it is a non benevolent dictatorship ? Lets see .. -There will be no individual Rights only privileges. These will be granted or denied at will by the world supra UN government. All property is to be owned by the State. There will be a redistribution of wealth. They plan to eliminate class differences and reduce the standard of living to a lower level in the advanced nations, such as the united States, and to a higher standard of living in the so-called third world nations. This leveling of the standard of living will be accomplished through a global economic collapse which is in its beginning stages. The economic collapse will fulfill the goal of Marx and Engles' Communist Manifesto mandating the elimination of the middle class. NAFTA and GATT are a part of this process encouraging industry to move into third-world nations in order to exploit cheap labor. All existing religions will disappear. The only religion will be the state religion (humanism or illuminism). All County and State governments will be eliminated and replaced with regional government. These regional governments (Home Rule) are already in place. Regionalism is gradually taking control throughout America. There will be no more cash. Trade will be accomplished by a system of computer credits with accounts accessed through debit cards or computer chip implants. The cards or implants will also serve as personal identification, drivers license, and etc. When this is completed the human race will be shackled to a computer in a never ending cycle of debt. No action or movement will ever again be private.- Edited spelling.
