Now, there are two!
The alleged Philadelphia Experiment is bogus. It's possible it was a DeGaussing experiment, I believe, but the details have been shown (repeatedly) to be extraordinarily different than claimed by the CTs.

Yep, I think you've hit the nail on the head, and much like Roswell, it's one of those theories that's had anecdotes added to it's repertoire throughout it's entire lifetime.

You've got to love any explanation beginning in the word "allegedly"!

Oh well, case closed. How sad to live in a world where unicorns do not exist.

Just to add to this wonderful story. I was a service brat in the 50's. I heard the PE and Roswell myths before 1960. I think that these stories are "Military Urban Legends", which got discovered by writers needing money. My Father did not buy them either, but he told me the stories anyhow, I think as a morality play on how rumors get started and fuelled..
When I was in the US Army in Vietnam, there were more of the same stories circulating, some of which if true, would mean that the planet no longer exists!! The Tesla earthquake machine for one, and the supposed doomsday asteroid that was going to hit us in 1970, among others.....(This was 1967, and all the myths used 1970 as a date....)
I wonder why these stories just keep going like the pink rabbit.....must have a really efficient battery!!

First paragraph: "Allegedly," Fourth paragraph: "Supposedly,"
It doesn't really sound like the author believes it him/herself.
That's five points off on the credibility scale.
