I don't know much about Hunt's son, but if his father knew he had conspiracist tendencies he may have given him the "confession" as a last treat. More likely, though, Hunt Sr. was making a final attempt to boost his own notoriety.

When the "deathbed confessions" don't jibe with any of the other evidence, include theories that have long been debunked, and generally lack credibility there is no reason to accept them. This one is no exception. The kink of deathbed confession that would turn things around would be something like Gene Kranz admitting that Apollo was a hoax. Ain't likely.

And how do you know that would happen? You just assume that's the case since it jibes with your conspiracist mindset. In any case, the point I was trying to make is that a believable confession would come from someone in the middle of it all (such as Kranz and Apollo) and even then it would require some significant verification before I would accept it as valid. As to the Hunt confession, see Tweedledee's comments below.

Actually even is Kranz did say Apollo was Hoaxed on his deathbed, it still wouldn't prove that it was, not unless he gave enough details to allow us to track down the how it was done, and that senario then become more likely than that they really did it. In this case, the "confession" suffers from the fact it doesn't jibe with reality. That we knew that Hunt was not in Dallas at the time of the assassination and so the whole thing stands out as false. In the same way if Kranz claimed Apollo was fake, and then used the same conspiracy arguments that have been shown to be false, it wouldn't hold water either.

Do we even know for sure that it really is Howard Hunt on the tape and not a hoax? Does anybody know what his voice sounded like?

No, we don't know that. There were witnesses who said he was in Dallas, and others who said he wasn't.

The confession tape was apparently released by his son. It should be easy enough to verify whether or not he is the son of E. Howard Hunt..

One would think it quite likely that other recordings do exist somewhere (of Hunt speaking), considering he came into high profile because of his involvement with Watergate.

Since the confession tape has only come out recently, it may take some time before we know for certain whether or not it's authentic.

According to the Posion Planet article it was an audio tape, if you have evidence to the contary let us know. That makes it a bit suspect if he wanted to 'come clean' why not do it on video?
